I think our adult resident Red Kite is no more but his place has been taken by one of the youngsters who is growing up very quickly. He has much stronger markings than daddy and a lot more colour. A magnificent creature.

He, also, now comes down when I call and he liked his chicken drumstick bones. I'm guessing that his beak/jaw is strong enough to crack the bones.

We have green woodpeckers @Jiffy but rarely seen. I know they're there tho because their call sounds like they're telling us off.

Merlin says we have pied flycatchers too. Heard but not seen.

The geese are on the move here. Spotted quite a few flying over while out today.

The local heron from New Hall valley came to visit today and it stood very still in the neighbour's garden just like an ornament. Sometimes it will stand on the roof. Then off it went - no fish available here.

I've been seeing geese on the move in the last few days, but not sure if they are on the move, as such,or just found new feeding grounds locally.

Again this morning we had a little egret fly over the garden. The other evening we had 8 flying over. Not used to seeing them here but they are increasing in numbers all over so many more around. Such a graceful bird.
Had some red admirals buzzing around as well as loads of whites.

I spent a nice little bit of time sitting watching the birds yesterday. Didn't get a pic of the wren or the willow warbler, or teh plentiful sparrows in and out of the pond, but this clown hasn't read the info about eating the darkest berries first, reds then orange etc, and that the whites generally get left completely.
There are hundreds of rowans round here with loads of fruit on them, but no - my white one was handier.

Before I went outside, I was looking out my bedroom window, and luckily caught a pic of this wee youngster. Couldn't get a clear pic of his head unfortunately. Plenty of goldies visit, so it's nice when some of their little 'uns come in too.

Loads of bees, and a good amount of wasps and hoverflies, plus some peacock butterflies, so it was a really lovely day for seeing everything that's great about having a garden.

Goldfinches here are gathering in large numbers in the fields, eating the many seeds I guess. We are seeing 30-40 at a time, although there might be the odd other finch in there with them.

We have dozens of small white butterflies (used the internet to identify them) and they are going mad over our Verbena bonariensis and the Annabelle hydrangeas.
