There was a light ground frost, earliest I can recall. We have had frosts in October before but never September. It was 2c in the greenhouse so lower outside. Nothing seems to have suffered but the tomatoes, beans and cucumbers will really slow down for sure.

6c now, sunny with a high of 16.

Our CH was a similar vintage and would still be going for years being built like a battleship. We changed two years ago and our gas consumption has more than halved. I reckon it has already paid for itself. Modern controls mean we only heat the rooms we use when we need to. Worth considering especially with such high energy prices.

No frost here and it only got down to 8c in the GH, but that's a lean-to so the house bricks keep it warm.

Full sun turning to sunny intervals. Max 14c. But dry all day.

Very dewy everywhere. Oak tree shedding it's acorns all the time.

We had a man from Cadent come to us a few months ago and he advised to keep our old boiler, just have it serviced regularly. He rightly said that people don't consider the capital cost and depreciation when buying a new one. We don't heat all our rooms and have luckily fixed our tariff well below the new cap that will soon come in.

I hate to think how much it would cost for me have a new boiler, I bet they would want to change the whole system as mine is very old.
Some of my rads are unusable as the valves have stuck in the rooms I don't heat.
I keep telling myself I need to sort them out but its one of those jobs that it never seems to be the right time.

Several thousand quid @pete , and more if you need the rads/pipework changed and upgraded.
I had to get a new boiler just after moving in here 11 years ago. I was going to extend and hoped the existing one would hang on, but no. Unfortunately, and I won't bore you with the detail, the people turned out to be wearing stetsons and spurs, and it hasn't been the best experience, especially when they wrecked my daughter's [new] bookcase in the process.

The chap who services it is a nice bloke though, but has nothing to do with them.

Oh joy, just when you think it is all over ...

"A sharp rise in maximum temperatures is expected for this Friday, except for the regions inland north and central. Over the weekend, the thermometers will reach 33°C to 35°C in some parts of the central and southern country."

... and we are as far South as you can get.

Had my 25 yr old one replaced in June. A couple of companies I asked for estimates wouldn't touch the job because a lot of work was needed to get a new flue in through the roof. The cost was £4,000 ... but that included a new hot water cylinder as well (which created problems as current models are a few cms bigger than the 20th century ones). I didn't have any radiators changed.

Ours was about the same cost, included removing two tanks in the loft and the water cylinder in a bedroom cupboard. Modern boilers are very flimsy compared to old and won't last as long, ours has a 10 year warranty and fully expect it will need replacing soon after.

It is 58f 13c and the guessers say it will be going up to 28c with a "real feel" of 33c. Nonsense. They said we'd feel in the 30's yesterday and it did not. It was pretty warm in the sun when working but certainly not heat stroke time!
