Afternoon everybody, thanks for all the anniversary wishes.

Just had a quick skim back, can remember poor @Badly_Maintained suffered more migraines, so sorry to hear that. Taking cakes to A&E is such a kind gesture.
Glad you're gradually improving @Tui34 but as the others say, don't overdo it.
Pleased you enjoyed your lovely evening out @Busy-Lizzie.
Great pictures @redstar but whatever have you done to your wrist?

It's dry here but I'm looking at grey clouds rolling in over the sea. OH wasn't very well overnight and didn't sleep well (it was very warm in the room) so had to miss breakfast and I walked down to the shops to get him some medicine. Hope that does the trick. It's quite nice though just to sit and relax reading the papers.

Out for a walk this morning, and a pop into Waitrose on the way home, for some much needed supplies. Still sulking at having to miss my sisters birthday party last weekend. I was so hoping I would kick off the cold / flu/ mild Covid? in time, but I was so bunged up and coughing that it really wouldn’t have been fair, and I was feeling rotten. Hoping I’m on the mend now, and that OH hasn’t caught this. He seems to be doing ok so far, but we are due to go on a weeks cruise next week. I offered to quarantine myself over a week ago, but he decided he had already been exposed to whatever I had, so no point.
I too remember the concentrated orange juice, supplied by the local clinic when I was a child. It had a very odd taste. We didn’t have cod liver oil, but instead had a mixture of cod liver oil and malt extract. It was like a sweet brown runny toffee, with a slightly fishy aftertaste. We all loved it, and queued up willingly for our big spoonful every day. Probably explains the state of my teeth!
It was dry but dull this morning. OH was considering popping out to sweep up the pine needles on the drive this afternoon, but it started raining a little while ago. I will get some laundry and housework done instead, and probably read the freebie newspaper I picked up at the supermarket. I have just bought the new Richard Osman book, which I have put aside for the holiday. Really looking forward to that.
The daffodil bulbs are still sitting on the kitchen worktop. I’ve moved them to near the kettle so they are more difficult to ignore. Also I’ll worry about them getting exposed to damp and steam, so that might motivate me a bit more. I only have twenty five tete a tete to plant. Would clumps of five be too many, or would I be better to do three? What do you think?

Came home lunchtime to 3kgs crab apples on the doorstep.
When I had my chutney business, I'd be inundated!
The first kilo is washed, chopped and in the pan.

@Ergates - you have just woken up a brain cell - Virol! I thought the fishy aftertaste was totally disgusting. I have a feeling that this replaced the cod liver oil in our household. As for your Tête à Tête. I'd go with fives for a super show. Glad to hear you are shaking off the 'whatever it was'. I am a huge fan of Richard Osman's books. I've still got to read The Bullet That Missed so I'm a bit behind.
@lizzie27, sorry to read your OH is a bit under the weather and I'm hoping that the medicine has done the trick.

Just looked up your link @Tui34. How on earth did we all survive? Beechwood creosote?? Yikes! Did you ever try the Lane's Emulsion flavoured ice cream they introduced in 2014?

Lane's Emulsion sounds absolutely disgusting @Tui34! We had orange juice, rose hip syrup and malt extract which I liked and cod liver oil which I hated.

We stacked the logs, but it wasn't a big pile, 1 stere. The rain had stopped.

I've done, or rather, the machine has, a load of washing, but I did hand wash the woollen jumpers.

On Wednesday we are heading in the Malvern direction, away 3 nights. We are going to the Malvern Autumn Show on Friday, meeting friends there.

                    Hello everyone. Shattered!

Woke up in the small hours thanks to very heavy rain and then just snoozed. Off out to spend themorning sorting fabric donations into appropriate piles to give away or sell and then cutting up the flowery ones to give to the ladies for a "Jardin de Printemps" project which consists of 16 squares of appliqué flowers and 16 squares of embroidered flowers.

That took nearly 3 hours and then a quick picnic lunch before the session started. 8 new members, cadeau de rentrée to hand out, lists of who's signing up for which guided workshop and so on and so forth.

Just having a cuppa before I cook dinner.

Great set of photos @redstar. Shame about the wrist.

Good luck with all the singing practice and performances @Liriodendron.

@Ergates there's a lot of whooping cough about here at the mo and older people being vaccinated. It can last a long time if caught when older.

@lizzie27 I hope OH is feeling better.

@Tui34 take it easy. Housework can wait a bit but a new hip that does too much too soon can be a long time fixing itself.

@Penny_Forthem what do you do with all your preserves? Ihave all sorts of jams and chutneys but we never seem to eat them.

I'm off to stretch my lower back which is aching now. Need it for dance class tomorrow night.

A very good morning one and all. Goodness me @Obelix-Vendée you sound like you were rushed off your feet yesterday but I can imagine it was a lovely day too. I have never done patchwork myself but Bestie's neighbour has done it for years and she has produced some stunningly beautiful items. Hope your back eases before your dance class later.
Enjoy your visit to Malvern and the show @Busy-Lizzie. Fingers crossed it is a pleasant, dry day on Friday.

Good morning! Eight hours sleep. Haven't done that in ages.

Sunny at the mo and cool but dry. Tomorrow is looking very wet tho, especially in the afternoon. I hope it stays dry for your trip to Malvern @Busy-Lizzie. If you have time, it's the perfect moment to visit this garden - Old Court Nurseries and The Picton Garden - Specialist growers of Autumn flowering Asters since 1906 full of Michaelmas daisies and a nursey too.

We don't just do patchwork @Ladybird4 and yes, it is fun but the first couple of Mondays are exhusting while we get everyone sorted out.

Hope you've had a good night @Tui34 and are healing well. Hugs to anyone with lurgies or sadness.

                        Have a lovely day everyone.

                          Good morning all.

Thank you @Obelix-Vendée. I had already mentioned the Picton Garden to OH but he wants to be a tourist and visit a bit of The Cotswolds. Our free day is Thursday and rain is forecast. The forecast keeps changing for Friday when we are going to the Malvern Show.

I hope there won't be flooding. I feel so sorry for all those people whose homes have been flooded.

Today looks grey but dry here so I want to plant my new yellow rose and blue clematis before we leave tomorrow.

                            Good morning all.

Still dry, though not very warm - apologies to those of you who've apparently received all the rain we'd normally be "enjoying" over here. Forecast says rain tomorrow afternoon, but I might need to water a few things this evening, because they're gasping...

Bulbs didn't get planted yesterday after all. I was given a couple of enormous cooking apples after the harvest festival, and the blackberries in the garden hedge were in need of picking, so it became a cooking afternoon. I've no idea why we don't get maggoty blackberries, but I've only found one "inhabited" fruit in the 5 years we've lived here. That augurs well for the raspberries I'm going to plant this autumn, assuming the beetle which attacks them is the same.

                              Hello again,
Hope everyone is well. I have a bit of a cold (mostly a cough) but other than that all is fine in my world. I got two 'highly commendeds' at the garden club autumn show, which I felt rather guilty about as I literally grabbed some stems from the garden just before dashing out, and there were many more deserving of the accolades. It was a good show.

Then we went to see Bow's orchestra playing Mahler, which went really well. She headed back to college the following day, then after a couple of days of sorting and packing we delivered Trill too. A tiring day but everything went like clockwork, her new room in halls is nice, flatmates seem lovely, and she's been gallivanting like a true fresher ever since! She starts in a big new choir tonight - not through college - so hopefully she will have enough energy.

So we have an empty nest. Early days but it feels fine apart from going down with this bloomin' cold. Perhaps I have Fresher's Flu on her behalf!

I am a bit miffed. (understatement)
I got to the stage of boiling the apple 'juice' with the sugar, went to the drawer where I keep my sugar thermometer and... not there. I looked in as many places as I could, then resorted to the 'old fashioned way' of the wrinkle test, by which time, the stuff was setting. Luckily, I only did about a third of the apples - and I have been offered more. I've also ordered a new thermometer.
However, it looks and tastes divine, but I cannot give it away; too solid. I filled one largish jar - I'd been hoping for 3 smallish jars, but less wasteful to make just the one for us..
I do have a feeling that OH 'borrowed' it a while ago. It's probably in the garage. I'll never find it there
@Obelix-Vendée, I only make small quantities of jam/pickles etc these days.
