Not the way I got my number. :heehee:

I phoned their registered Fraud Dept number to get it. I've dealt with their fraud dept a number of times over the years when I was working with consumer advice. :blue thumb:

I phoned our surgery one time as they hadn't sent me an appointment that they said they would make for me. They told me they had sent me a text. So I pointed out that they hadn't looked at their records that said I can't receive texts as I don't have a mobile. They looked at their records and apologised and said that there is an appointment on the books, told me the day and time and then said they would confirm it by text!:roflol:

Just made an addition to the "What are we doing in the garden" thread:
I cleaned the bird nesting box yesterday. I was glad that the well made bed made of moss was empty.

and go straight to the "Latest Moan", adding:
Since then, I have some itchy spots on my right arm. I wonder if there were fleas or similar in that bed.

It's that 'right hand doesn't know what the left is doing' scenario @shiney. Bonkers.
I agree with you @pete. If they can text you for an appointment, you should be able to reply the same way. Your slot could then be given to someone else, which may suit them better than the one they've been given.
I often think it's a terrible waste of paper/resources sending appts. out, which is what we have here, and with the poor mail service in some areas, surely it wouldn't be that hard to text/email folk with their appts. if requested?
Mind you, that would require common sense, the most inappropriately named thing in history.

We used to get texts to our landline from our dentist. It sounds very robotic. But the youngsters on reception don't do it anymore as they don't understand technology.

I've got itchy spots on my head having been head first in the shrubbery. I think it's midges of some kind. Very small things.

Our landline phones won't accept texts or any automated calls as we have Call Guardian on them. They only accept calls that we have either put in to the directory or if they first say their name and then press the hash key. That stops all the nuisance calls. :blue thumb:

The surgery obviously don't have time to look at any restrictions on calling us. We have both signed authorities for us to be able to take phone messages for each other but they always start off by refusing to give us messages until we insist they look up their records. Mrs Shiney doesn't have the patience with them that I do :heehee:.

She tends to get annoyed with them when she has one of her regular blood tests and phones up for the results. She has to make an appointment to see the doctor for them and then gets told by the doc that everything is OK and come back in six month's time. A waste of an appointment, the doctor's time and her time when they could have just said "It's OK and see you in six months".

@fairygirl, the texts are inviting us to make a flu jab appt, not booking us in. If the NHS sent me an actual appt and I didn't want it, I would let them know so they could reallocate. :)

Meanwhile ... the Lords feel we are unprepared for war and people are not worried enough. The BBC is doing its best to counter this with endless news coverage from various hotspots :nonofinger:, but apparently the Lords want civilians to understand conscription will be necessary!

I'm sorry, but nobody, absolutely nobody, should be required to die in conflicts deliberately set in motion by those in power for the furtherance of that power. The whole idea is quite obscene.

Don't worry like most on here you are almost certainly too old for conscription.
While most on here will agree with your sentiment; very few who have any real power will read it and of those that do none will take any notice.

I'm not worried for me. :) I'm not trying to attract the attention of the powerful. I am under no illusion that either I or my thoughts matter. I am simply expressing my impotent fury at the state of things ... cos this is the moan thread. ;)

People with any sort of influence who stand against war don't tend to last long. War is a game played by the elites. Get in their way and you get mown down sharpish, either for real or, just as effectively these days, virtually.

I know I am, but I'm not keen on the snail mail I received today that seems to be rubbing that point in.

Three lots of mail for funeral plans, a letter from the NHS reminding me that our GP will be contacting me for some free vaccination and then pointing out that I'm too old to get it free. So if I wanted it I would have to pay for it out of the money I'm now not getting for the winter fuel payment - didn't want it anyway, grump, grump! :old: :heehee:.

Harping back to the non-phone calls from the GP:- I don't expect us to get the vaccination phone calls either. Oh, I forgot, we have already instructed them not to call us about vaccinations - so I expect they will certainly phone us . :roflol:

Very easy to say, but how would you feel if Putin dropped a missile on your house and property.
Its not really something one side can have a choice about. Go away Mr Putin, we are not going to fight you, sounds like an invitation.

Its like not fighting back if you are mugged, even if you come off worse you have to at least try.
