Who got what is less important, IMV, than the fact a very wealthy person is using that wealth to influence politics in this country in a very big way. It makes a lie of the "one person, one vote" bedrock of democracy.

I think there should be no donations or gifts given to individuals and all donations to the party should be capped at a set amount.

I can understand donations to political parties but donations to individuals is just another form of bribery.

When I was working I always claimed £50 a year from the tax people for overalls.
Surely they should do the same.

I didn't get a separate "protest" vote just my normal standard vote. Do I have to pay for this extra vote or subscribe to the right organisation.

@ViewAhead - there was a similar sort of story a few days before that about a girl who had been adopted after a severe fire in her home town [S. Africa] when she was a baby, and it meant she was the most badly burnt girl in the world to survive. I say girl - she's now 30, and I think it resonated with me because my older daughter's the same age, and the adoptive mum is my age, but it also made me weep when I read it, because people can be so cruel and heartless. I just dont' understand it.
They moved up here [the north coast] to get away from all the horrible abuse she was experiencing, and are now very happy. The mum runs a charity [Children of Fire] to help people in similar situations.

Be thankful for some of the protest voting. ;) If Gillian Keegan had not been ousted from her very, very safe seat, she would be front and centre during the current Tory leadership campaign, and had she got to occupy the role of leader of the opposition (which given the other front-runners would have been a likely outcome) and possibly next Tory PM, that would not have been good news, IMO.

In other news, I had my 25 yr old boiler replaced in June. Since then, it has only been required to supply hot water and has been managing that most satisfactorily. However, today I required it to supply heating (or I will never get the washing dry) and have discovered it can do this ... but cannot also do the water. If I turn off the heating, it will heat the water, but if the heating is on but paused (ie the rooms are at the set temp), and then I turn on the water, the boiler won't kick in till I turn the heating fully off!

Ah well. Could be worse. Maybe it will right itself after a few goes at changing between the two. :fingers crossed:

@ViewAhead, I know that my heating goes off temporarily if I run a hot tap, but not the other way around. However my combi boiler is at least 25 years old and probably will need replacing soon :fingers crossed:

Doesn't sound right that, either a fault or setting I would guess. The other way around I assume is often normal if priority is to the hot water for short period use?

Edit: Thinking on it, I assume water comes out the tap, but it's not hot/warm? Perhaps a low pressure issue?

Sounds like the instillation isn't right to me, but I know nothing about modern systems, probably a new "green" idea.

Edit, who the hell is Gillian Keegan?

Is there a User Manual with your boiler @ViewAhead? If it's no help, I'd give the installer a call tomorrow. It sounds like a setting problem or incomplete installation. Your boiler will be under warranty so no cost should be incurred.

@DiggersJo, I have normal water pressure. What it seems to be is a little black lever on a little grey box outside the main boiler moves between the heating and the water as these are turned on. So, if everything is off and I turn on the heating timer, the black lever moves to the correct position and the boiler fires up. If everything is off and I turn on the water timer, it moves and the boiler fires up. The problem seems to be if the heating is already switched on (but the boiler isn't firing up cos it has heated all the rooms) and then I switch on the water timer too, the boiler does not fire up and get on with heating the water (even though I know it should as I have just used half a tank's worth having a bath). But if I then turn the heating timer off, the boiler does fire up to heat the water fine and dandy.

So, I have heating ... and hot water ... but I can't seem to heat the water while the heating is on.

No manual was forthcoming, @Plantminded. TBF, I'd be reluctant to fiddle anyway. At the moment, at least it is working in shifts.

Former Ed Sec ... and millionaire ex-banker, parachuted into a safe seat in 2017 and hit the ground running, with "Tory leader in waiting" all but tattooed on her forehead. ;)

@katecat58, mine's a conventional boiler, so the hot water is stored ready and waiting in an insulated tank in the airing cupboard. :)
