I love Chicken Passandra @Obelix-Vendée, but I've never cooked it. I don't like chillies so I have it when we go to Indian restaurants.

Took me ages to find this thread.

I like Strictly and watched it last night, but I don't care for classical ballroom dances in weird costumes or with modern music. I listened to that music that @AnniD posted, hated it. I prefer dances like Paso Doble with Spanish music and costumes. Maybe I'm just an old fashioned stick in the mud.

Nothing wrong with just liking what you like @Busy-Lizzie  I remember in the 'olden days' when I used to watch Come Dancing (in black and white) and we were always informed as to how many yards of tulle went into making those meringue dresses and also how many hand stitched sequins had been attached to them. Seeing them nowadays would make me smile as all the women resembled those twee toilet roll covers and they all looked similar!

The first of the couples leave “tonight”.

I voted for Tasha & Aljaž. I thought they were polished and elegant.

My favourites are usually a Paso or Tango, as I prefer the bolder music - just my taste.

I would have voted for them too, @AuntyRach. I'm not resident in the UK though.

I loved those dresses @Ladybird4 ! I remember them in colour - or is my mind playing tricks?

A little surprised at the first couple voted off. Just checking if people are OK with the result being posted after the results show has finished before I name names .

I think we should wait a day to post results just in case people haven't seen it yet.

I shall comment tomorrow or I'll give the game away.

@Busy-Lizzie, you will have seen Come Dancing in colour but I only remember it in black and white and those incredible synchronised team dancing displays as well as those powder puff dresses. Are there any Mecca Ballrooms any more?
@AnniD and @Liriodendron I, too, was surprised at who was eliminated last night.

I thought it was fine that those two couples were in the dance-off as they hadn't danced well enough in the show. He was very wooden with almost no hip movement and heavy feet. Cha-cha is danced on the plant of the foot with the weight over it. No heels.

She had tremendous energy and no inhibitions but was also heavy footed. Have to say I didn't think much of the choreograph either, downright awful in fact, and I find that professional dancer creepy so they can go next week please.

What really concerns me tho was the proliferation of tacky costumes with fringing excesses, especially down the legs. Hideous. Designer fixation? Stuck in a rut? Ballroom and Latin outfits can be elegant and sophisticated and enhance the movement.

I remember Come Dancing in black and white and colour and have to wonder how they managed with all those layers of tulle. Those formation dancers were amazing. I suspect it still happens in the UK but it's a big thing in Germany. There's a dance club in Andenne, Belgium that sends a coach load to watch the German finals and then books teams to come and perform at their annual gala in December - absolute precision from costumes, wigs and make-up to the performance of complex routines. Stunning.

It seemed to me, as a complete non-expert, that the overall level of performance was unusually high for week 2. Very useful to have a dancer's view of the dance-off competitors - thanks @Obelix-Vendée . Personally, I'd have had a different sportsman in the dance-off, but what do I know...

I'm all for conspiracy theories. and both of the people in the dance off have, in interviews, said how important it is to work hard. That will be entirely against the BBC ethos of handling the contestants with kid gloves and not allowing the poor darlings to get tired and stub a toe. On that basis, I suspect the survivor from this dance off will be out the door next week.

They all have to work hard @KT53 and I expect the effort and commitment required is a shock to some of the celebrities. However, this pair were at the bottom of the table and for good reason.

In addition, she said, before the dance-off, that she wanted to stay but if she didn't she'd be on a beach in Barbados by Tuesday so not exactly the end of the world for her.

I've seen the result now on other social media. Disappointing. I don't think I'll bother to watch the Results show.

No. They all need to work hard but some of them don't seem to understand the meaning of 'working hard'. You are correct that some of them are shocked by the level of commitment required, although how that can be when the show has been on for 20 years is beyond me. Hamza said his feet were bleeding at times and Jonnie Peacock said his stumps were red raw and bleeding at times. They accepted it and got on with the training. That's commitment, not some lovvie complaining that they were shouted at.

As it’s a thread about Strictly then I don’t mind if we say results after the results show as we can choose not to look if we haven’t seen. Happy not to mention if people prefer to wait a day though.

A bit of a surprise this week - a few couples were not as good imo.
