Road closures every day here, some last a couple of weeks or more, but you never see anyone working on them.

Its got to the point that no body takes any notice of them anymore as half the time you can still get through.

Last week we had temp 4 way traffic lights at the mini roundabout up the road and lots of cars queuing. There were lots of "men at work" signs, but no men working. Then I noticed on the back of every sign and piece of equipment was a sticker saying KIER. I thought he's everywhere. Then I realised the spelling wasn't quite right.

Down here, they have been constructing a Dutch roundabout (something to do with incorporated cycle lanes). They have allowed themselves a time scale of 10 months. A couple of times a week, I go through the narrowed roadway with piles of dirt and machinery at the edges and in the middle. Never once have I seen a workman there.

We have had a roundabout converted to a so called Dutch roundabout , I've not noticed anything specific for bikes but it's got red tarmac and forces you into a single lane and makes lane changing difficult once you have committed yourself.
Traffic queues trying to get onto the roundabout have more than doubled in some directions, others seem to just sail through.
Two thirds of the road surface is now virtually unused as it was a three lane one.

Yes, I'm assuming it is a cunning council plan to impede flow rather than assist it! :th scifD36: It was perfectly serviceable as it was - a roundabout with 5 entrances, the two busiest having traffic light pedestrian crossings a few metres before the junction, ensuring vehicles from the smaller roads never waited long for a chance to go round.

On Wisley airfield the planning inspectorate overturned the councils refusal to 1700 homes (lack of infrastructure and the normal necessary things). There's now another plan adjacent to those 1700 homes for a further 70 houses!
What's the point in local plans, greenbelt and the council if the planning inspectorate take a glance at the application and overturn decisions?!

Isn't this the kind of thing Starmer has been threatening, nimbys will not be tolerated.
Planning applications will be forced through regardless of local objections.

It was happening prior to herr Starmer but yes we can all expect more of it. They may as well get rid of planning departments and let people go nuts

I've just had to wait in a queue of about 20 cars to get out of a car park in town. Traffic jam caused by some idle **** who parked in the exit lane while they paid for their parking.

Having given up the Chagos Islands, Starmer refuses to rule out giving up the Falklands and Gibralter. It's about time we had referendums on certain matters. This bloke really scares me. I can't put my finger on it. I have no idea what's in his head.

Well ... the 3 are not directly comparable.

The residents of the Falklands want to remain as part of the UK, so they should. The residents of Gibraltar want to remain part of the UK, so they should. The residents of the Chagos Islands were summarily evicted from their homes and want to return ... so why not? Maybe there are strategic implications for the US and the West, but given war now involves long-range this and smart-drone that, these can probably be overcome. And people matter more than the conflict tactics of the wealthy and powerful.

If he even contemplates giving up the Falklands or Gib then he'll get slotted.

I doubt even he knows what's in his own head, I think he makes it up as he goes along and running in a panic for now

Starmer is reported as saying he can't afford to pay back the £16k as his salary isn't high enough. I thought he was loaded anyway.
