I work two days "in" and three from home, and find the balance perfect.

The convenience of working from home is significant, no commute, freedom to arrange my hours to accommodate dentist check ups, parcel deliveries and whatnots and so on. Anyways, most of my meetings are with colleagues in different locations so have always been remote.

However, getting into the office is good. By the time I reach my desk I have said Good Morning and smiled to at least eight people, and that is important. On my home days if there are no meetings, my first words may happen when The Child gets home.

And just the casual chats are good, good from human perspective but also professionally when you can just ask something not worth emailing or pinging about.

And for the huddle/ meeting room battle, I have found the perfect plan. I schedule In Office meetings to start 10 minutes before the hour and gleefully watch the laptop carrying crowd walking past in vain search of a room

When I was working three days in and two at home would have been good but totally impossible:biggrin:.
Any time spent doing docs appointments etc. always meant lost money, if you are not there you don't get paid.
Likewise no sick pay other than SSP after three days.

All jobs are different but I guess you get used to them.

I guess you remember the five and a half day working week.

I remember back to a six day working week and when they reduced it to five and a half days. Also reduced the normal working week from 48 hours (although individuals could opt out and work longer hours) to 42 or 40 hours. :old:

It was always 40hrs basic in my time, Saturday mornings pretty much always available for overtime along with an extra hour every day, but at one time, overtime was only paid at time and a quarter.

When I started Christmas eve was only half day but you did get the next two days off.

Honestly, I wish he'd never written it. It's given those in charge all sorts of ideas. ;)

Way back in the 80s my overtime rate was 1 and 1/16. We often worked for nothing at weekends and evenings if you went over the budgeted hours for the job. You didn't want to be seen as useless. My lunchtime allowance of 75p was more than my hourly pay and we only got 3 weeks holiday. None of us had cars so we got on public transport to get to clients carrying all the files on the bus or train in plastic bags. We weren't unhappy about it as we all did it.

And then we had "away jobs", which is when I "met" my hubby. Lots of couples met each other at this firm. Happy days.

3 weeks holiday? :yikes: You were lucky! :blue thumb:

When I was a lad we were allowed one day a year if we were lucky.

We should be worried, well maybe not so much for the older generation. Basically it is the millennials and generation Z that are pushing for less working hours per week, they want more for less. When infact all they do is talk the talk, but can't walk the walk

The problem I have, they blame the older generations for all their woes. In the USA the baby boomer generation 1946-1964 which accounts for 23.6% of the population in the USA, but they account for 43% of all donations given to charity. Where as the millennials, which accounts for 25.9% of the population only accounts for 11% of all donations to charity.

This pattern also implies to reducing our carbon footprint, Millennials and Generation Z will skip education and work to protest and spread their anger over fossil fuels through social media.

It is often assumed the young are more environmentally aware than their parents' generation.
However, when it actually comes to reducing or reversing their carbon footprints, evidence shows older age groups are way ahead of millennials and generation-z.

How can software control how often you work on your PC? Unless they have attached some type of device to employees and apply an electric shock if you aren't doing enough. Maybe not a bad idea. Employers can certainly monitor the amount of work done and the amount of time a PC isn't being used, but if they are paying somebody for 7 hours work per day and apparently getting about half that, don't they have a right to know?

The very application the worker uses to do the work will log your hours, keystrokes and even the type of keystrokes to prevent people using, let's say, an electric device to continuously push keys to mimic the strokes are human detected.

@KT53 an @shiney I don’t want to take you the enthusiasm to be online, but believe me, there are institutions that literally know everything what you do in your online life. This includes search, website, IP, your written message, what newspapers and what articles you read etc.
