They're welcome to anything I do online. :heehee:

They can look at all I put on GC (it would bore the life out of them to go through my 63,000 posts), my emails are also boring to anyone else, don't read newspapers and articles online and if they are able to follow the way I play bridge they will be better than all my bridge partners and opponents. :roflol:

Software can certainly control what you can do on an employers PC, and why shouldn't the company know what is happening on their equipment in their time? What software can't do, at least can't do yet, is control how much work somebody does. If by 'control how often you work on your PC' you mean access is only available during certain hours, that is also the employer prerogative.

As some of you know, I have been looking after and handling bureaucracy for some disabled people for quite a long time.

The powers that be no longer send out renewal notices for renewal of blue badges which is quite a nuisance. One person that I've been looking out for since his parents died 40 years ago is more on the ball and phoned me to say his badge runs out at the end of the month. So I went online to see what is required and they want a photo, copies of birth certificate, proof of address (council tax bill),NI number, proof of benefits etc. Not difficult but a nuisance, particularly as he lives in town and I live in the country.

The site said that they are running at least 12 weeks behind!!!

So I phoned the county council and asked why it is necessary for all that as they know he has been disabled from birth and they have proof of his many disabilities and it is pretty obvious he isn't going to have a miraculous recovery.

To be fair to the woman that I spoke to, she was very pleasant, she agreed that it shouldn't be necessary and it is possible to do the renewal over the phone. I had all the required information apart from his blue badge number. So I'm going to have to phone them again tomorrow, wait in the queue (we are experiencing a high volume of calls) and go over it again - I now have the blue badge number.

Hopefully the person I get won't say that they can't do it. :fingers crossed:

Well by the time they've been through my online data their spelling and general knowledge will have improved and they will a good knowledge of a wide variety of plant and gardening web sites, they may even now be members of this very forum; or more likely have a pain in all the diodes down their left side.

You have a wrong imagination of PC work.
Office jobs are not about filling out spreadsheets which no-one needs and reads. There are always statistics and targets that need to be met.
If Tata or Ford had no office jobs, the steel/car workers’ work would be for nothing. Those office jobs can be done from home and they sell the steel and cars.
I hope I made it more visual.

My attitude is very simple they provide the computer they can install what they like on it, if I provide the PC, ie when working from home, they can keep their greasy little paws off it; as my IT works better than theirs.
I'm even peeved that they expect me to use my mobile phone for verification codes when using their PCs.

Tell them to pay some of the costs of your phone.

One of the saddest newspaper reports I have ever read was about a couple of lads larking about on a tube platform. One pushed the other towards the tracks just as a train was arriving. The lad lost his balance, grabbed the tie of his friend and the arm of a stranger standing there by chance to stabilise himself, but he fell anyway, dragging his friend and the stranger with him. All 3 died at the scene. Larking about can be deadly.

I think I have a reasonable understanding of PC work. For most of my working life I worked on IT support covering many different areas including PC support. Software can determine how long a keyboard has been in active use, for example. It cannot determine what other work an individual may have been doing when the keyboard is inactive. The proportion of time spent on or off the keyboard is something managers should be able to judge for a particular job. Where have I said, or suggested, that office jobs are of no importance?

I suppose we could stop growing sugar and go back to importing it from countries that use the chemicals.
If anyone has an answer to the problem I'm sure we would be doing it, unless it means a certain crop then becomes unprofitable.

I suppose we could stop growing everything and just build houses, but that wouldn't be right either.

Were moving further and further down a rabbit hole.

One teaspoon can kill one point two five BILLION honey bees.

And what else, while it’s at it?

In the UK the JI centre is looking to breed virus yellows resistant varieties of sugar beet. Also looking at treatments to target the viruses in the plant.
