I think I would have gone back into the shop and reported it there and then. They probably keep a record of accidents on their premises (even if no serious injury) and may have called the police for you.

Car park road marks are advisory but not a legal requirement - BUT - if an accident occurs when the driver is not obeying the signs then it is possible for them to be prosecuted for careless driving. The Road Traffic Act applies in private car parks as well as on the road.

I hope you're OK @fairygirl and that you taught him a few new colourful words :). He probably parks in that disabled bay regularly and can be traced by camera footage. Drivers' manners seem to have deteriorated dramatically over the last few years, no respect for other road, or pavement, users.

Thanks for all your concern folks - I think I'll take the advice and 'give the rozzers a bell'.
I'm astonished that isn't the case @shiney, re the road signs. Maybe if I'd flashed at him it would have been better. He wouldn't have driven at all after that :heehee:
He wasn't parking to go into B&Q @Plantminded, because he clearly hadn't a clue where he was, and certainly wasn't going shopping for nuts and bolts. I [stupidly] thought he was just stopping nearby to come and see if I was ok.....

That B&Q road and car park layout is the same everywhere and in my opinion is unsafe. The road in front of the building should be moved to the far side (there probably is another road on the far side). At ASDA it's just car parking spaces right next to the building and the road is further away.

I expect you were quite shaken up @fairygirl .

Maybe the bloke had driven in to do a drugs pickup. In and out quick. But a lady with a trolley had spotted him!

Our local Asda is full of idiots who ignore every arrow on the road @cactus_girl , and also drive too fast, and as far their parking...a whole new level of self entitlement. It has a similar layout to B&Q.
I always told my children when they were little, that car parks are far more dangerous places than roads. I still stand by that comment now, decades on.
When I pick my older daughter up from there once a week, it's the night I then do my shopping. If I'm finished before her, I sit and watch the dreadful driving and behaviour, and it never fails to appall me.

We have a smallish B&Q in the town, it's been there for years.
It has two openings into the carpark, one in one out.
The in one is on the right, it's caught people out for years.
I suppose it makes sense but confuses any one who doesn't spot the signs.

These days we have labradoodles, cockapoos, sprollies, sproodles etc why do owners get upset when you call them mongrels, which is what they where when I was growing up, or Heinzes.
Also if you cross a cockapoo with a cockapoo what do you call the puppies; or even better you cross a labradoodle and sprollie how do you advertise the offspring then.

I have a similar concern about double-barrelled names; this is the modern fashion when people marry, they keep both names. But what happens when a double-barrelled kid marries another double-barrelled kid? Do they end up with 4 names? Nightmare for form filling, passports etc ...

When my brother and his wife married they picked a different surname to their born surnames as both surnames were crap. I'm surprised more people don't do that actually. Needless to say the older generations were tutting a bit

                            How about Arab names?

Ibn means the son of. So you can have the name Ahmed Ibn Mohamed Ibn Riad Ibn Khalid El Talib.

Bint means daughter of. So if Ahmed had a daughter and her name is Amina, her name would be Amina bint Ahmed Ibn Mohamed Ibn Riad Ibn Khalid El Talib.

An interesting source for our word “bint”, maybe?

Imagine the future generations trying to research the family tree!

One branch of my ancestors changed their surname; it looks like they were using two different surnames for a while before they settled on the one that survived to this day. I'd love to know why. It made for some fun research as later census records with the eventual surname indicated that multiple members were born in a small town, but no births under that surname were registered in that town in the correct years. I ended up finding them by searching purely on christian names.

I do sometimes wonder whether people being traced in genealogy quests would feel happy about it. Some might be thrilled to be remembered. Others might not want their lives splashed across Who Do You Think You Are episodes.
