It's that time of year when the harvest mites come out to play. I am covered in bite from toes to scalp, worse than usual this year. OH and Possum have nary a bite between them whilst I am being driven mad by itchies despite antihistamine pills and and anti itch cortisone ointment.

I told my friend Denise at patchwork club today that, despite appearances, I am clearly much sweeter than OH and she fell about laughing!

I expect you've tried most things but what about aloe gel @Obelix-Vendée ?

I used to suffer lots with insect bites but must be getting tougher now I'm older!

Thanks @lizzie27. I have a handy aloe vera plant and will try some fresh leaf sap.

It wouldn't be so bad if I could see or hear the blighters coming.

I've got a pot of gold buried under the very overgrown part of the garden - but don't tell anyone :nonofinger: otherwise they might come round with a spade and dig it up. :th scifD36:

@Obelix-Vendée, I use Rescue Remedy cream on anything that itches or stings. Works like a dream.

Maybe they will get rid of ISAs altogether and make them fully taxable. They want money out of us now, not some years down the line.

And it sounds as though employers will have to pay more NI. That seemed to be slipped out yesterday.

You can bet there will be a big cash grab regarding motoring as well.

Just wonder what effect all these "difficult decisions " are likely to have on inflation.

:ideaIPB: I know, instead of making this money grab, why not spend less? The "spend to grow the economy" mantra doesn't benefit the people who fund it (aka us) unless the profit generated by the growth is shared across society.

Personally, I would not be against that. I don't think there should be any tax-avoidance wheezes ... for anyone. Close all the loopholes, simplify the system, and you might just fill the black hole. I would particularly like to see money earned from a business operating here taxed here. Say you live in a tax haven, but have multiple properties here that you rent out. The income is generated here and should be taxed here, IMV. A company trading here should be registered here. That would reduce the attractiveness of tax havens without the bother of trying to get the world to agree these should not be allowed to exist.

Labour plans to inject fat, unemployed people so they lose weight and can get a job! Save the NHS money while they're on.

No joined up thinking then - teaching them nutrition, cookery, reasons for eating badly in the first place - poverty, depression, lack of education - to make lives healthier and happier and stop a vicious circle.

Call me an old cynic, but I think all the jabs will do is create a lot of thinner unemployed people, who don't want to work anyway. There are jobs out there, just not necessarily the type of job they want i.e. sitting down, doing very little, being paid way above minimum wage for being so gracious as to accept the job.

ISAs are for ordinary people, it's not the super rich, they don't mess around with ISAs but whatever measures you bring in to clobber the rich they will get round or simply leave leave the country.

Starmer has had his big investment event this week, all designed to bring in foreign investors in to the country .

But don't we rely too much on foreign investment, when they take over providing services and take the profits home, surely that is what has been going wrong for years here.

You will not get rid of fat people until you get rid of all the fast food deliveries and take aways.
I see the bikes out at 9.30am presumably delivering breakfast to just those kinds of people, the same ones who have time on their hands and could easily cook something themselves, but then they can't afford the ingredients, can they. :roflol:

I'm not sure if I mentioned previously about a friend's grandson who was given a detention for throwing water over a girl at school after she twice called him a monkey. He is mixed race. He didn't react the first time but did on the second. All that happened to the girl was that her parents were called to the school to say her behaviour was unacceptable!
There has been another situation with the grandson since that where he was being cheeky and disruptive in class and was told to go the see the Head of Year. He refused to go and just sat there. Another detention, at least a deserved one. His father went to the school, fully supporting the teacher, and said the teacher should have taken him to Head of Year. The response, sadly not surprisingly, is the the teachers can't touch the kids for fear of being charged with assault!
No wonder kids seem to have no respect for anybody or anything.
