Trump never wanted the office, he wants the power associated with it to use for his own ends.
Why anyone would want to lead a country is beyond me, they can never do anything right according to the public!

In theory, it's quite easy to please the public.

    1. Don't waste money on vanity projects.
    2. Make sure all legislation has benefit for the majority front and centre.
    3. Cater for the 95%, not the elite. In a one person-one vote system, that should be all that matters to keep you in power for ever and a day.

In practice, democracy doesn't work like that. We get an elected dictatorship, which is better than an unelected one, of course.

    :)

I must admit I'm skeptical, because what happens when the elite all disappear, bear in mind the 1% of top earners pay nearly 26% of the tax revenue.

The top 1% also suck up a lot of resources, get a lot of contracts which could go to smaller companies, and so on. They don't necessarily spend money here, so there is limited trickle-down.

26% of trickle down is no to be sniffed at.
I'm not saying they are not getting away with some things but it has to be a sensible and delicate balance between keeping them on side and getting them to pay.

Unless you are suggesting communism which doesn't really appeal to me as you still get the haves and the have nots, but in a way that is probably worse than we have here.

I really am not suggesting communism. ;) I am suggesting a very much simplified tax system, but one that applies equally to everyone. Fairness. Transparency. A true we-are-all-in-this-togetherness. Zero expectation of perks or loopholes or special treatment by govs. Respect for what people bring to the table, be that physical stamina or boardroom acumen, without exploitation. The narrowest possible gap between the wealthiest and poorest compatible with rewarding skill, effort and achievement. All combined with personal responsibility for your own health and welfare.

    :)

Quite an ask, especially as we are sliding at speed in the wrong direction. That's no reason not to try though. Small steps ...

The price for the car part from the manufacturer's site was eye watering. I looked on it just out of interest, but I often wonder if anyone actually pays that amount. There were no 2nd hand parts that I would have gone for. I was on a hiding to nothing with it, and fortunately there was a discount offer too, so it ended up at just over £30 and free postage.

That would be an 'Eric Morecambe/Andrew Preview' moment @ViewAhead

I'm giving consideration to leaving the country.
It's just a complete mess; I think this latest budget is going to upset me more and absolutely nothing will change in how government works and abuses the people. Nothing new, but after just about 50 years I've finally had enough

Another motor moan. We got back to the enormous car park at Newcraighall park and ride, having had a lovely day in Edinburgh, only to find that some inconsiderate motorist had scraped our car, and not left any note.
It wasn't any adjacent vehicle, so we are not happy.

There is so much space in the car park, that there is no need to get that close.

If we can collect enough scratches, it might be worth having a respray!! Mind you, we've had the car about eight years, so will probably change it soon anyway.

              Can I have your greenhouse.

I'm not sure where you can go these days that are not in the same state as we are, unless you go for a mud hut somewhere.

Maybe we need a breakaway county, embracing independence. Then we could all move there. I vote for West Sussex as our experimental republic. Lovely climate for gardening.
