    Good afternoon ladies & gentlemen.

Storm Ashley caused about 20,000 homes on this island to lose their electricity supply, and also caused coastal flooding in various places. However the good news is that I'm currently not aware of any loss of life. This village seems to have escaped fairly unscathed, although the plants didn't particularly enjoy all the salty air.

I very much hope you are now vertigo-free @lizzie27 . Happy to hear that you had an enjoyable meal with generous portion sizes @Penny_Forthem . Hope you are feeling OK now @AuntyRach . Thank-you for the beautiful photos @Busy-Lizzie , hope your tummy will settle down soon. Best wishes to Rob and to you @Goldenlily26 .

Covid jab for me tomorrow morning.

Best wishes to all as always.

In honour of National apple day, I have stewed apples for Eve's pudding.
By chance, I came upon a 2021 Waitrose magazine, whilst clearing old paperwork. It has a lovely recipe for Apple, cardamon and brandy jelly; that'll use up some more Bramleys and Katies. No crabapples left now.

2 years ago, I did some tuition with a lady from Ukraine and now I have volunteered to do it again with another lady. She came 2 years ago, but returned when her husband was injured. She's back now, and needs catch up 'lessons'.

That doesn't sound too good @Busy-Lizzie

Good afternoon everyone. Good news that a t least you know now what Rob is suffering from and that there is a less invasive treatment for him. I think you are right in not subjecting him to a brain operation at his wonderful age @Goldenlily26.
Sorry to hear that you a few of your travel companions are not well @Busy-Lizzie. Lets hope that everyone recovers soon so that further enjoyments can be experienced. Whoever though that cabbages could look so pretty!
@lizzie27, many of the celebratory days are American but some are Scandi in origin and there are the World and International ones too (not really sure how they differentiate those!)
Sorry you have still got a headache @AuntyRach - well maybe its inproved now. @Penny_Forthem, did you ever get to the bottom of the big crash you heard last night? I always add cardamom pods to my stewed rhubarb.
Great to see you @Songbird. How are things in your neck of the woods? All well I hope. I have my Covid vaccinatioon on 28th.
Quiz match tonight and we are at home. Hope we manage to answer some of the rather obscure questions that we seem to have had inflicted on us this season.
I'll catch up with you all in the morning. Enjoy your Monday evenings.

Good to see you @Ladybird4 , hope you are well. All good here, particularly after waiting three to four weeks to get some scaffolding taken down from the front of the house.( had dry ridge system installed).
Also, hello to everyone else posting on here. :)

That's a shame @Busy-Lizzie, have you go any Immodium handy? I find that usually does the trick. Nice photos.

Hope your headache goes soon @AuntyRach.

Had rather a surprise this morning, I'd seen the GP late Friday afternoon who told me he wanted another scan of my lungs to rule out anything untoward and blow me, I had a phonecall from the CT scan dept at 9 am this morning - I was amazed as it wasn't an urgent case (as far as I know!). Trouble is that I didn't hear it as I don't have my phone in the bedroom and didn't check it for various reasons until lunchtime. No answer when I tried calling back of course so I assume I'm now back of the queue. I expect they had a cancellation and called me because we live near the hospital so could there quickest.

Lovely photos @Busy-Lizzie . Sorry to hear you've got the collywobbles, I hope it passes quickly (!) and you can get on with enjoying the rest of your trip.
Glad you're home safely @RowlandsCastle - I can't believe how many castles you managed to fit in!
I hope @Liriodendron is having a successful trip too, and that the storm didn't hit too hard.
Really glad you now have a definite diagnosis and plan of action for Rob, @Goldenlily26 and hope he continues to improve.
                And hello @Songbird !
I've had a busy 'doing nice things' week - day trip to NT Ightam Mote, day trip to RHS Wisley, exhibition visiting yesterday, and today I've been mudlarking and lunching with an old friend. Just on the bus to garden club now. Serious amounts of housework tomorrow!
Good luck in the quizzes @Ladybird4 , and have a good evening everyone.

Thank you. We arrived back this evening, after an arduous journey from Yorkshire to Kent.
Stuck on the M25 for a while, but enjoy coming over the Dartford Bridge.

I did a castle trip with my Dad a few years ago, and managed almost 100 castles in 10 days, visiting 17 on one day.
My wife is not as keen as my Dad was!!

                    Morning all.

I had a bad night. Today is the visit to Vienna but I'm not well enough to go, so disappointing. We went to a pharmacy in Linz yesterday when I started feeling ill. I have some probiotic tablets from the pharmacy as they said I can't take Immodium because I have diverticular disease.

Good morning @Busy-Lizzie. So sorry you are still feeling below par. I really hope that you recover quickly and can continue to enjoy your cruise.Last night's quiz turned out to be an interesting one as two members of the opposing team apologised in an email as they were stuck in Poland - due to some flight difficulties. Had our captain checked said message earlier in the day it could have saved us all a trip. We made an evening of it though, used the questions and had a fun quiz amongst ourselves.
@Songbird, I am guessing that the scaffolding had been left up much longer than was needed? That is a good job done then. I remember us talking about dry verges many years ago.
What a shame for you @lizzie27. I do hope that you don't have to wait too long before another appointment becomes available for you.
Glad to hear that you got home safely @RowlandsCastle. Are you planning your next castle adventure now?
You certainly did have a lovely time by the sounds of it @LG_ I have run out of fingers and toes counting up the years since I was last at Wisley.
p.s. today's celebration is nothing to do with that funny, crazy friend you may have.

Good morning all. I'm not planning the next trip yet, @Ladybird4
I think my wife is all "castled out" for now.

Actually, the trip up north was organised (and paid for) by my wife, although I marked out which castles to visit. A sixtieth birthday present.
I can say that, now the date has passed!!

The view out of the kitchen door this morning.

Thank you for the good wishes for Rob. Poor old chap, so stoic bless him.
He hates having his face washed, I think his eye must still be very painful. It takes me a good half an hour to wash him and put his eye drops in. I have to leave 10 mins.between each application of 3 lots of drops.
Interestingly my son was diagnosed with a benign tumour on his pituitary gland about 20 years ago. It was very scary at the time because he had been going to his Dr. on and off for a couple of years before the diagnosis made and was constantly told ease off, it was over work and stress. He had the option of surgery or medication with the chance of losing the sight in his left eye if he had surgery as the tumour was wrapped around his optic nerve. He chose medication and has done well since, a brain scan and blood test each year to monitor his hormone levels and back to living a normal life so fingers crossed for Rob. My son was never given the name Cushings Disease but it sounds exactly the same as Rob.

I took some time out and made myself a rather tasty coffee and walnut cake, I even managed to get some washing almost dried. I have another load to go out today but it is too wet and drippy at the moment. It is supposed to be clearing up later so I am waiting a while before putting it out.
