That happens around here also.
My food waste bin became brittle, as plastic does when opposed to the sun, a few years ago, I just sent an e mail to the council stating things don't last forever and I refuse to pay for a new one.
Got an e mail back saying a new one will be delivered in a few days, which it was.

I got the feeling they get repeat offenders who are always asking for new bins.

 

When RR finds out she will scrap that one too.
How on earth are you going to survive.

 

Somehow, @shiney, I get the impression you might be filed in that category with a number of companies and service providers.

 

I dunno how you fit in gardening.

 

We don't have a problem here either, but if one council spots a way to screw more money out of us others will probably follow. What I don't like though is replacement lids for recycling boxes are those stupid things like shower caps. You can't stack boxes with those tops and they tend to get torn off anyway.

 

But even you, @shiney, can't lengthen the daylight hrs available for gardening ... presumably! Unless Shiney Towers has sodium floodlights installed, of course.

 

All these organisations you keep in line must tremble at the onset of longer hrs of darkness!
