I think he would think that fulfils the manifesto pledge to not raise tax for "working people".

His definition is clear as mud, as is most of what he says. In fairness that's true of every politician. Is somebody who has built up a company but no longer does the 'grunt work' classed as a working person by Starmer. If not, and this non-working person decided to shut up shop, ther would be a lot more non-working people out there.

It depends on your definition of a proper job. Sure he has never done manual labour, but he was a lawyer, and the DPP before going into politics. Lots of us did " white collar jobs" doesn't mean we didn't work for a living.

Starmer was a lawyer so it's probably true to say he never worked for a living.

The £300 is stopped from us in the UK but if I read it right UK patriots living abroad are still going to get it. I am not hitting at anyone or their families on the forum but it doesn't seem fair. I don't get it at all , I must be missing something :cool::scratch:

                      but something else.
He taxes the Rich for they can do without it . et c but of all these taxes where does himself come into it .
Id like to know where he puts his savings and How much do the cuts affect him????

Not very bloody much I'd like to bet .........But then again I'm just the usual layman /:oldlady:who like many saved a little towards a pension and should be grateful he has left me some of it. .OK Ok I've had me rant, will go now and count out my pennies , see what I can't afford today.

Lawyers are dodgy in my estimation.
Who in their right mind would defend someone they know is guilty just because its their job and someone has to do it.
I think he was involved mostly in the persecution sorry, prosecution, side of things but yet again that suggests he thought everyone was guilty.

I'd like to know at what stage I stopped being working class because I'm sure I won't come under Starmer's definition any more.

Definitely born working class. Had my first regular paid job at the age of eight - car cleaning five evenings a week. Weekend stall in the market in the East End of London at 15, got a job at an accountancy firm, qualified and then left accountancy and went to college and continued through college up until I went into the merchant navy.

Left the merchant and worked for myself six days a week until I had saved enough to start my own business. As I'm rather unusual by only needing two to three hours a day sleep I studied many things including consumer law, finance and travel.

As I didn't smoke or drink I was able to save some money, hence starting my own business, and learnt how to look after my money whilst studying finance.

I worked over 60 hours a week for 40 years, saved and fortunately missed investing in any of the companies that went bust. I slogged my guts out during all that time.

So, sometime in that period Starmer would consider I am no longer working class. Having been retired over 20 years I definitely am not 'working' and don't have a great deal of 'class' :heehee:but I don't feel as though I have changed. :nonofinger:

Do any of you feel different from when you were young? Apart from physically.

Yes, you're missing the fact that whilst some ex-pats do still receive the WFA (those in Italy and Eastern European countries for example), those of us in France and Spain do not. You might find it interesting to know how the UK Government arrived at the conclusion that France is a 'hot' country? They included the statistics from the tropical islands belonging to France in the 'average' temperatures for the mainland. Neat, eh? There are many areas in France that have equally cold or lower winter temperatures than mainland UK.
This article explains the facts in a slightly less provocative or sensationalist way than most UK Press and media...Do you qualify for the Winter Fuel Payment if you live abroad?. Happy reading...

I think you are just the kind of person Starmer is aiming for, they appear to want to stifle ambition and anyone who tries to better their lot.
                              Its labour thing.;)
