Two half-price purchases at B&Q today - Cistus Corbariensis and Diervilla Honeybee. I want to replace some of the grass in my front garden as it only gets shat all over by the neighbourhood cats, so these two are going to be the start of that process. 2024-10-26_13-15-02.jpg

After the walk in the park I decided to just nip along to the garden centre close to the park entrance, I wanted a small plant to add to a winter display.

Anyway, got side tracked by the half price area, picked up a Ensete for £9.50 and an Ever Red Musa for £11.50, just got to keep them ticking over for the next few months, I've trimmed all the dying leaves off now and they actually look better.

They had some nice variegated Colocasias as well, fair sized plants but not sure if they were half price as well. DSC06060.JPG

Oh while I was there I raided the recycle bin and got a few pots that should come in handy.

I've actually cut most of it off now, the ones that were looking tatty.

Went to garden centre yesterday to pick up some viola and a cornus for a pot display. I picked up this cornus nightfall I were quite smitten with the colour of the leaves almost black. DSC_1027.JPG

Those Musa were good value @pete !
Never heard of that cornus @Perki. Leaves look good though my cynical head says it may have coloured better by being starved in the pot:smile:.
Does it have good flowers like kousii?

Unfortunately no it s a cornus alba so the small dainty flowers. I reckon the leaves will be more green during the summer.

Went wild on JParkers wholesale side. I prefer to have more of one plant than just one of each so the concept of getting five each fits well- and these are either loose/ bare roots or small plugs which also pleases my character who gets unhappy when the hand reaches towards the wallet ;)

The Hollyhocks are really for The Child, her taste leans towards Soviet aesthetics so bright pink doubles should please her- and I can just about justify them as part of cottage theme. Plus they are tall. :)

Echinops were the reason I initially started my shopping spree, I have always had Ritro but lusted after Bannaticus. Less than £2 each is about right.

Just one Clematis each, enthusiastic propagation from cuttings is planned. After all, I'm now a Lady who apparently owns six fences

Whatever you do @Selleri - don't plant out those clematis. They're just cuttings [slips] so pot them on and let them grow for anouther year. They're also bets planted in spring to avoid toomuch wet ground affecting them. They'll then be well adjusted and settled by the following winter.

Most of those will need grown on too before planting out next year. I hope they do well for you though.

Happy bunny here :) I've been trying to track down Pittosporum tobira variegatum for ages with no success. One of the local garden centres is doing their annual open days (20% off everything) this week, so off I toddled, like you do  Bingo! Beautiful 3l pots of aforementioned, an Escallonia that I've been after for a while too, several pretty Heuchera Obsidian Coral Bells, Euphorbia White Swan, Helianthemum double pink, Fatsia japonica, a mixed pack of little shrubs including Strobilanthes dyerianus and a couple of useful Hebes and a lilac-flowered Alstoemeria. I'm going to have to plant like the clappers now before the weather turns.....
