"Graupel is also called snow pellets or soft hail, as the graupel particles are particularly fragile and generally disintegrate when handled."

This stuff was not all that fragile...

This morning it is 32f 0c and it's been steadily dark all night and up till now. I don't see any stars so it must be cloudy!

Just got an email from a distant relative who lives in New England saying how the whole family, scattered across the USA, have “stood in line” for up to an hour to vote for Harris. She says that the result is on a knife edge. It sounds a lot closer and more scary than it does in our news reports. She mentions someone called Heather Cox Richardson, a professor of history, as someone to read if you want to see the future if Trump wins. For example….

There's no good outcome for this. If Trump wins, well, 4 yrs of chaos as he swings from this idea to that on a 3 am whim. If Harris wins, uproar from Trump supporters, which could be a lot worse than in 2021.

The Republicans and Democrats are equally to blame for US politics becoming such a partisan mess, IMV. The whole system needs a complete rethink and the influence of big money should be totally removed from the equation.

I said similar to this when it was Trump v Biden, but the same applies to Trump v Harris - - if those two are the best of the best of America, then no wonder this world is in a mess.

It's not just the US, all countries are exhibiting more extreme / polarising partisan behaviour. It's almost as if it's being orchestrated...:th scifD36:

A Trump win is filling me with dread and for the life of me I can't see why half the nation think he is a good option

Yes, in the 1930s we had Spain, Italy, Germany and Russia all with “strong men” making rousing speeches to adoring followers and look where they got us. Now we have Russia, China, North Korea, Hungary, on the same band wagon plus others such as Germany and USA on the brink.

On a change of topic, I look after some handicapped people and one of them received a letter from their water authority asking for his email address and mobile number in case they are doing work in the area and need to update him on what, and when, it is going on.

Seems reasonable - but - although he is fully compos mentis he has a lot of physical problems and also isn't keen on talking on the phone. So I do all that for him.

He phoned me to ask me to do it for him adding that he received the letter yesterday and it wanted a reply by last week.

So I did my usual simple task of phoning them with the info. It wasn't simple! They couldn't take the info from me as I had told them I was phoning on his behalf (should have pretended to be him :rolleyespink:). They said that under GDPR that are not allowed to take the info from me as it may be false. I replied that if I had pretended to be him they would have accepted it so if I was a conman I would have done that in the first place. Brick Wall!

They said they would send him a letter of authority for both him and I to sign giving permission for me to speak for him and it may take a couple of weeks. I then pointed out to them that he lives in a different town to myself and that I may not see him before New Year. No comment from them apart from 'Sorry'.

I told them that I can guess at what he would say and it would be they could put it in an unpleasant place. It was them asking for the info and not him wanting something from them. As I pointed out to them that in the unlikely event they wanted to contact him they have just barred themselves from doing so by not accepting the phone number from me.

He has been there 12 years with not needing to contact them and if there was a problem he (myself or one of the neighbours) could contact them at that time.

The person at the other end was very nice all the time.

Lesson learned by me:- in situations like that I shall be him and not me. :blue thumb:

But I can also see that for many ordinary Americans the Democrats in power just hasn't worked. Education standards, homelessness, inflation, all the things that matter to people have become enormous problems under both parties. Billions of tax-payer dollars get siphoned off in military contracts, to Big Pharma and Big Food. The moneyed elite behind the Democrats have no more interest in living standards for citizens than those behind the Republicans do. So, people get desperate ... and desperate people are more prone to persuasion by anyone who claims they can solve the issues.

America's problem (and, increasingly, ours) is that money (getting it, keeping it) has eclipsed humanity. The mantra about anyone being able to get on if they only try has been pure poison. Not only is it untrue, but it allows lack of compassion for others and their cirs to fester and take root. Add in religious obsession (god wants it this way) and gun mania (killing another is acceptable), and, well, we can clearly see the results.

Little point in worrying about whether Trump gets in or not...... preferably not........he will still remain a PITA and cause trouble whether elected or not. Politics are a world wide joke - sadly not one you can laugh at tho.

It's a water company, it's bound to be difficult!
I'm the next village they have Thames water digging up one end of a road by a rail bridge and Anglian water digging up the other! Did it get coordinated? Nooo. Normal outrage is flowing from the locals
