The cloud did thin this afternoon but not enough to allow any sunshine through.
At least it hasn't rained, 15c.

Been a pleasant enough sort of day, awoke to thick fog but the sun burnt through and we got to 12 degrees, almost dark now with a lovely red sky so the shepherds will be happy.

I doubt that they have calendars  Some years huge flocks of them fly over in a short space of time. Some years they've hardly gone before they're back again. I believe there are colonies in the Arcachon basin that don't migrate at all any more. It's uncanny that within a couple of days of important flights, the weather does turn cold and horrible! They know, you know...

I agree @fairygirl. Over the last few weeks both high and low temperatures during the day and overnight have been between 10C/50F and 14C/57F.

Today it's been calm and dry with weak sunshine. 12C/54F

Same here - the temperatures don't vary much at all. It was just 12c today and felt quite cold with the gloomy cloud. Nothing was moving. Dead still. As it was so cold I stayed indoors and put the CH on in the daytime.

Tonight it drops just 2c to 10c. And tomorrow it might get up to 13c.

                  No sun at all.

                    Good morning team.
Finally, first fog. I love looking at fog and walking through fog if it's not the polluted fog from the fireplaces and firework.

                        Foggy this morning but mild.

I well remember the bad smog we used to get in London in the early 50's. It was so bad that we couldn't see our feet when walking. In Victorian times they used to get smog (a mixture of natural fog and the smoke pollution from coal fires) and because it was a London phenomenon was usually called the London Peculiar or London Particular. They were also commonly know as 'Pea Soupers' because of their slightly greenish colour.

The 1952 one was the worst on record and became known as The Great Smog and lasted four days - I think. It was the reason why the 1956 Clean Air Act was brought in.

I'm a mine of useless information :heehee:

We just have mist here - which is not as dense as fog. Sunny intervals possible later.

I watched a programme about The Great Smog - I think that extreme situation was caused by the weather conditions as the air couldn’t escape due to pressure and all the smoke was trapped - awful.

Another murky, smirry start. O'night low of 11 degrees [11 just now at approx. 7.40am] - and a predicted high of about 12, but some stronger gusty winds to appear today.

I can't remember a time when October had that sort of balanced temps, day and night @Sheal , and I've lived in the west all my life. Bizarre.
A very dry October too, but without many frosts, which is also very unusual here, and they were very light and short lived when we did have them. This year there's only been just over 100mm rainfall. Last year was 138mm, and in 2022 it was 226mm.

Yesterday was quite decent, with the sun making a few small appearances in the morning, and some smirry stuff in the afternoon. The high was 14 degrees.
