Sorry for my Genglish this morning.
In particular she didn’t stop accusing the Tories for betraying the nation, and now, the same OBR does it again. I wonder what happens now behind the doors. She is now in the same position as the Tories were. If it were not our money, I would have Schadenfreude.

Isn't the black hole more than £1.4 trillion? Public sector pension liabilities have not been included and with all these pay rises will be even more.

It's not just their chocolate which is horrible. We bought some sweets at Orlando airport for the journey home. I tried one and it tasted like TCP and was inedible. There were 2 American sat opposite us in the departure lounge and I saw one of them start to laugh. He friend asked what she was laughing at and she nodded towards me and said to her friend "He's just tried some candy and I don't think he liked it". A masterful piece of understatement.

I find it amusing how Americans think food in the UK is awful (despite never having visited) and a lot of UK people think the US survive on burgers and fries

Having just become firm friends with a couple of Americans, it's a bit of a tussle when booking restaurants as they gravitate towards the local 'trendy' (the French do love a good trend :gaah:) burger and pizza joints. To be fair, there aren't many traditional French restaurants left now round here...

That's strange because I dont think we have any English ones around here., but never thought the French would go down the same route.

I think the closest thing to an English restaurant around here is the chippy.

But they are often foreign ones that do fish and chips as well as their own stuff.

I think English restaurants disappeared in the 1980s, anyone remember Berni Inns ? Closest now are the pub chains serving pies, burgers and fish and chips. Not always good. We usually eat at Italian restaurants if we go out. Occasionally go to Toby Carvery for a cheap big meal.

We're fortunate in having a number of restaurants that serve English fare but some of it is quite fancy.

I think there's no such thing as an English restaurant. Maybe it's an island nation thing (or empire?) but there's so many influences that what is an English dish is quite open to interpretation

Isn't an English menu prawn cocktail, steak and chips, and black forest gateau?
