The joy of this forum of “thoughtful gardeners” is precisely that the members are not blind to other interests, not obsessed with just one subject, and are aware that politics are, among many other things, very much about gardening; watch out for forthcoming staff shortages and rising prices in garden centres.

I think the comment probably refers to the fact it's in the general gardening discussion forum.
      I could be wrong.

Certainly won't affect my gardening much. One of the things I love about gardening is how inexpensive it is compared to my other hobbies! Even the next cheapest, trail running and hiking needs good footwear which costs a lot more than a nice plant! The last pair of trail running shoes I purchased cost me just under £120. The last plant I bought, my Syringa 'Bloomerang Dark Purple', only cost me about £30 including shipping and handling and will bring me many years of pleasure.

I received a Bowel Cancer test kit about 5 yars ago. I contacted the issuer to say I wouldn't be using it and in order to avoid them wasting money, to note that I didn't want to receive any more. The reply was very polite, thanked me and said should I change my mind at any time, I could request a kit.

I always do mine. It's just the sending of a letter beforehand that I find wasteful, particularly with the price of postage these days. That must be quite a lot of £££ they could be spending on something else, like extending the age groups for various screening, vaccinations etc for those who want them.

My apologies. I do seem to have been misinformed.
Apologies also to RR for my complaint. Next time Mrs R tells me something, I'll check it first. She's not often wrong, but in this case, . . . . . !!!

Not wrong at all, in fact quite right!

Considerable care had been taken, pour ceux qui auraient pu perdre le fil, to make the subject of my thread unambiguously clear in the title, precisely to save time for the uninterested; fully reassured that the thoughtful knowledge of the issue would guarantee that they would not waste any time reading ANY of it, I knew I could sleep on both ears, although it now transpires, with only one eye.

Some have expressed a desire for safeguards (although it appears that connection has been lost [?]), and I agree that perhaps something along the lines of a “Relevancy Alert” function might be useful for those whose time is precious; I am reminded of the of old joke: one old lady says Isn’t the food terrible here? And the other one says Yes, and such small portions! Personally, I will always try and make time for the old suggestion that Humani nihil a me alienum puto.

Meanwhile, how about this for relevance? (if the connection is too obscure, see photograph below) les feuilles mortes yves montand youtube - Recherche Google

As mentioned, the budget has prompted us to extend our vegetable patch (see it below, awaiting its turnover); I could write a book on it called: “Mrs Lao’s Pride and Joy” (the chapter about me would be very short!)

We always do our bowel cancer tests. It saved my hubby's life as they found a 2cm polyp. It was removed just in time the surgeon said. The test scares us even more now as it can come back positive.

No need to apologise, no need at all. Whenever Mrs Lao tells me something, I always divide by two; just joking, no matter how much I would describe her charm(s), you’d have to multiply by two … at least!

Well, it was all a bit of a mine-truffled labyrinth with Ariadne’s availability being rather limited!

The dust is beginning to settle and one contradiction remains extremely puzzling: why, having declared in the strongest possible terms that “it” would be all about reducing inflation and increasing growth, the estimated effect would now seem to be diminished growth and increased inflation. Work that one out. But then, as you said at the outset, Let’s wait and see … Do we ever do anything else, even at the very end?!

@LawnAndOrder we 'wait and see' because we have no alternative. Politicians will say whatever they think they need to say to get elected and then do something totally different once in power.
                    'Twas ever thus!

One of the problems with democracy, the elected present but do not represent.
