It's not looking good for many European car manufacturers, the VW group could close 3 factories in Germany plus pay cuts for many of it's other workers due to the group selling 500k fewer cars in Europe.
Mercedes are to set up cost cuts as revenue nearly halves. Stellantis have seen 3rd quarter sales slump by 26% and other companies like Bosch that supply the auto car sector are to cut jobs.

I think we are just playing into the hands of the Chinese, who, all the time are just putting two fingers up to net zero.
I really do wonder what idiots we have running our western countries these days.

      Two fingers?

"In terms of newly built generating capacity, solar continued to break last year’s records, with 163 gigawatts (GW) added in the first nine months of 2024. This is equal to the combined total capacity in Germany, Spain, Italy and France, the four EU countries with the most solar capacity. China’s solar capacity additions in the third quarter were up 22% year-on-year, as shown in the figure below."

The growth in China’s solar power output this year alone is likely to equal the total power generation of Australia or Vietnam in 2023, based on growth rates during the first nine months of the year.

Wind power additions accelerated as well, with 38GW added in the year to September, up 10% year-on-year and exceeding the total wind power capacity in the UK of 30GW. "

My EV had absolutely no problems in cold weather, maybe the range dropped a tiny bit but not enough to concern me. They may vary but with my BMW it heated the batteries to solve the cold weather issue. I had mine plugged in before the morning commute so it just used mains electric to preheat the battery compartment.

This was on an older first generation EV so I suspect the issue is even less of a concern now.

My son and brother now run EVs without any of the worries being voiced here. I'd get another without a second thought. Contrary to what's being said here they are great fun to drive. The performance of my son's MG is comparable to an ICE supercar plus it goes round corners like a go kart, the low centre of gravity with the batteries slung low contribute.

But is the Chinese the problem, or is it we do have idiots running western countries.
The UK produces around 10 million tonnes of scrap steel annually, of which about 80% of it is exported, mainly to developing countries.

So in 2022 the UK exported 8.24 million tonnes of scrap steel and imported 5.7 million of finished, semi finished steel products.

There is a strong argument that it is the UK that is sticking two fingers up towards net zero. Forcing our industrial sectors to close only for those products to be imported back into the country that we have no control of is not exactly leading from the front to reduce our carbon footprint.

That is the point I was trying to make, China is manufacturing everything and selling it to us, basically with EVs it's the same that we have allowed them to
over the years with all manufacturing.

But at the same time we are just playing into their hands with our net zero policy.

Yeah, I'm not interested enough to read 8 links, too much information for my little brain.

two of them appear to be in Chinese.
