Be interested to know how much you pay for half a service, I paid £50 I think for next year but they do collect every fortnight apart from missing one collection over the Christmas period.

I hear Starmer has suddenly come up with another 75 million out of our back pockets to throw at it, without saying what it will be used for.
They are all talk and "smashing the gangs", is just a stupid statement, they have never stopped drug smuggling gangs so why should be believe they will ever stop people smugglers.

I heard one suggestion today, " maybe we should allow them to go back to using the lorries in the tunnel, it was much safer".
I'm afraid until they drag this country down to a similar level to the countries they are coming from they will keep coming.
But we are getting there, probably in another generations time.

 

@pete We pay £46 and I expect that will go up again next year. They really are a shower. During Covid they didn't collect for 6 weeks and then refused to take my bin because it was too heavy. It was full of grass, and only full because they hadn't collected for so long. I phoned and complained and they took it away the next time.

 

The boats are stoppable, if you adjust conditions here. No funding for irregular migration from general taxation. All money needed to come from a tax on the super wealthy, with the tax rising as numbers do. There would be uproar from the "contributors". Reckon it could be sorted by Friday.

The truth is those in power, and their front-persons in parliament, don't care if it is sorted and that's why it hasn't been. It is not beyond the bounds of possibility that the criminal gangs are colluding with some of the powerful here in what is a very nice little earner.

Spare a thought for the guide dogs

Bonfire night firework concern over guide dogs.

 

Round here about 80% of households have at least one dog. Walk through any shop in town and you probably won't come across a child, but you can guarantee there will be dogs. Barking has replaced the sounds of children playing. The one upside is the lack of fireworks. Apart from a few organised events, people setting them off in back gardens has practically become extinct.

I can honestly say I've never had a deep fried Mars bar @Sheal [and wouldn't want to]...or even heard of deep fried creme eggs. I suppose we should get full marks up here for trying something new though!

Not just guide dogs. My cousin had a wonderful, friendly border collie who turned into a quivering wreck at the sound of thunder. When fireworks went off she didn't dare approach the dog as he was so terrified.
I did read something recently about a suggested move to silent fireworks, that's to say no bang. There will presumably always be the crackling sound when the big rockets etc go off.

 

I'm hearing fireworks that go bang, but up until now not heard any of those ones that screech which has been the really bad ones in recent years.

I find those one that go, bang....bang....bang....bang....bang....bang, a complete turn off.
