Our local chippie is very good. All fish is cooked to order and chips done in small batches so always really hot. No soggy batter like in the old chippies where fish was piled high and kept hot. Certainly not a cheap meal any more.

The quality and taste of oven chips is nowhere near that of our local chippy, and I only buy them when buying fish which they cook for me when I go in there. :blue thumb:

That's the result when Labour townies decide what is best for the countryside. I bed the one or other farmer who voted for Labour is deeply regretting what he/she did.
We face in Europe the biggest thread from being governed by people who have never worked outside their bubble. Everything what I read here about what Labour is doing, I have read that already 2 years ago in German newspapers. The German government introduced the same inheritance tax for their farmers and they complained. You should have read the comments by newspaper readers, of course they live in towns and have no clue where food comes from. For them, farmers were rich and need to be taxed.
I give that Labour government another year and then it will start crumbling apart.
Good that I can now vote them out. But there is no doubt that if the 80% townies are that stupid, we are lost.

I think that governments everywhere in the West have realised that 'divide and rule' is the way to go. With the help of the Press and media they can manipulate sections of society to feel bitter about other sections....North v South, workers v skivers, young v oldies etc etc. It's certainly noticeable in France where there used to be a real solidarity which has now all but disappeared.
Starmer's approach seems very reminiscent of François Hollande's 'socialist' government. Promise the earth to the voting public, create an expectation of better things for ordinary people and then carry on screwing them just like the previous lot. I often wonder whether there's a single country where 'the people' will just decide 'enough is enough' and instigate a different system, or are we all too apathetic and brainwashed now? Sounding off our discontent on social media is sooo much easier, isn't it?

It runs much, much deeper than that - they are all working in lockstep with each other, with the likes of Blackrock and other globalists pulling the strings. Everything that is and has happened since 2020 is geared to forcing us to change our attitudes and behaviours - they want rid of small business so that they control absolutely everything, that is also the reason they want digital only currency and electric vehicles, purely so they can control every little thing we do. They are not even trying to hide it anymore and still folks will shout 'conspiracy theory' - if everyone was to wake up and revolt against these policies/behaviours, then we'd have a chance, but by the time that happens it will be too late.

What gets up my nose is Making Tax Digital (MTD) imposed by HMRC. You are forced to get new software and maybe hardware and then report to HMRC every quarter. The self employed with income of just £20,000 are the next tier to have to do this. This is a huge change for taxpayers and if you get it wrong you get fined. I remember in the 1990s people could send in a hand written tax computation and a human checked it. There was no stress in those days.

Oh I don't know, @cactus_girl. I distinctly remember the year (1970) that my grandfather, having imbibed two nips of his favourite tipple instead of one in order to fortify himself for the annual battle with his tax form, then went through the whole thing writing in red pen 'NO'. He stormed off to the end of his road and shoved it in the letterbox. On reflection the following day, he would have retrieved the envelope if he could, but too late....much too late  That caused him a bit of stress :roflol:

They found out they could easily control us through fear during covid, so now we just get it with everything, end of the world stuff is the norm.
Almost everything we do these days has a link to climate change, when the basic problem is too many people, full stop.

Tsar Nikolas and his family had a taste of that. The outcome wasn’t too good for anyone.

The climate is changing - the climate has always changed, for millions of years and will do for many more. In effect, we are still in the phase of coming out of an ice age, when you think about it. As for their stock argument 'warming is faster in the past decade than ever before'... tells me they've never defrosted a freezer and also that their data set is only going back a relatively small way. Science (proper science) left the building in or perhaps before 2020 - now it is 'The Science™' and what goes depends on who is funding it and how much money they can make out of it - any views that do not agree with 'The Science™' are simply shouted down, called conspiracy or even (as Sadiq Khan did) "Far Right"

So did Louis XV1 and while it wasn't good for the aristocracy or initially anyone else, ultimately it led to a better society for all. It's the same in Russia when you know people who actually live there and hear their accounts of what life is like now, rather than relying on what we in the West are fed by the usual sources.
