Fencing companies will not have to pay the same price you do for the materials. £200 for labour for 1/2 day's work doesn't seem that unreasonable to me. Presumably you would expect them to clear the old fence away, and that costs too.

        @wiseowl
£200 for this work sounds reasonable to me too. Knowing that the company has to pay tax and all the things, even he is experienced and does the job in 2 hours, he gets less than I get per hour.

@wiseowl how much do you think trades charge for labour these days?

I checked my constituency and find the map result with 2.961 are 1.3% of 113.000 voters not correct.
Our MP got 21.000 votes and 3.000 want a new election which means every 7 potential voter (13%) want to get her out again.

I agree with @wiseowl that it seems excessive. That works out at £2,000 for a five day week.

I have someone doing my blown down fence at under £30 p.h. The broken fence will go on my bonfire.

My brother-in-law is a builder and charges around £300 per day. We aren't in a particularly affluent area but he has more work than he can cope with. Rates in the South East are generally higher than the rest of the country.

The £200 labour is probably for two people.

But the Conservative were rubbish also, I think that is the point, they only got to do 14 yrs because the bunch we have now were in turmoil at the time with that silly old man in charge.

The Conservatives are all singing from different hymn sheets and have been for ages, it was only Brexit that got Boris the win, it wasn't because he came across as a really good leader, far from it a complete clown, but at the time he appealed to those that wanted the referendum upheld, end of story.

We're in a reasonably, but not very, affluent part of the South East and most builders around here don't charge that much. Maybe it depends on how much work there is or how many builders there are. :noidea:

They wont want you buying the materials yourself, it doesn't work like that, if they supply them there will be a mark up on all the stuff, they then add the labour charges.

Would you take your car for a service and supply all the new spark plugs and oil etc. etc. yourself.

I'm sure the attitude is its not worth their while I'm afraid.

I've just heard from the person that is going to do our fence, just one fence panel that only needs slotting into the concrete uprights. :phew:

The fence panel is only £36 and he gets 10% trade discount which he said he will pass on to me and as long as I'm not in a rush he will put it in for nothing when he's passing by on the way to a job in a fortnight's time. They always end up getting a cash tip anyway. :)

People like that get lots of recommendations locally and we have a list of craftsmen we keep on our computer. They rarely need to go much further afield than our village and the nearby villages.

Maybe village life is different. :noidea:

                          On the subject of money.
Just been to Boots for an eye test, I only use reading glasses.

Had the test and he said the prescription had only slightly changed.

Would you like to get some new ones?
Yes OK, so I pick out the frames.

i sit down with the lady and she asks the usual questions
Then measures my eyes with some gatget, 3 times, then asks someone else to have a go.

Sorry you cant have those frames they are too wide for your lenses, but you can have these, really small ones, cost, £100 plus lenses, £189.

                          But I dont want those.
Well you will have to have thinner lenses £225.

I last bought three pairs on line for about £30 a pair???????????

I got up and walked out, I'm not sure where it was leading.

@pete I have my one, optometrist supplied, pair of prescription reading glasses and a whole bunch of poundland style ones. Those cheapies are great in the garden. If I put them down, and forget where they are, at some point in the future, I bumble across them again. And if I didn't find them again, it's not a load of money on the line. I have very rich earth in my gardens however no matter how long they lay out there, none have ever germinated

Agree @pete ,found my previous opticians were really poor. Got 2 pair of specs from them, the nose protectors fell off 1 pair within 2 weeks. Took them back and was not even given an apology. One hinge failed within a month on the other pair, did not bother to take them back as they were for driving and couldn’t see properly with them at all!. Gave up on both pairs of specs which cost about £75 each and post cataract surgery bought 3 pairs of readers for less than £10. Can see to read, computer etc perfectly. That was 4 years ago and not even used 2 of the pairs yet ! Having had both cataracts done I can use basic readers and my long sight now is pretty well perfect.
