Not the frost but something has been hungry in the cold and dug up a load of my daffodil bulbs and destroyed the shoots that were emerging underground leaving bulbs and bits of shoots lying around.

The cold made lots of things hungry, as it was such a sudden change, down to - 4C here.
We had lots of birds to feed and the snow showed lots of rabbit foot prints but there were some prints on the terrace that were more puzzling, as they were too big for most things. Soon solved when we saw my tubs of potted kales.
I'd grown them in containers as the veg garden wasn't rabbit proof (they had never been a problem before), but as it turned out, even kale grown in a dustbin wasn't deer proof!
We knew there were deer in the Forest, and we had seen them occasionally in neighbouring fields, but it was the first time we'd known them to visit our garden. Or that they'd like Cavolo Nero!

I had a friend in Belgium whose bulbs were routinely excavated by local pheasants and a couple of peacocks who'd escaped from home.
