Morning everybody, absolutely perishing here, it was -1.6 at 7.30 am and my handyman turned up at 8 am and has worked like a trojan redoing the sleeper bed. He's nearly finished already which is very good going, 7 sleepers removed and then replaced upright with supporting posts and a two steps dug out midway along the sleepers in a new gap so I can safely access the top tier. No excuse now for not weeding!

If it's an old covenant @Goldenlily26, they are rarely enforced these days, especially if the original participants are long departed. It would probably be very expensive to enforce in any event so I wouldn't worry too much.

Greetings all. Very dull but calm today after a sopping wet and windy night. Lots of birds on the feeders now so I wonder if most of their wild berries and grains have been blown off or sogged to death. Too soggy for us too so no gardening.

We've done our weekly shop today, coinciding with the quiet period of the week for those who want a calm shop. @AuntyRach our SM always has at least one cash desk for people with max 10 items and at least one more with priority for disabled people, pregnant women and others with reduced mobility. There's also at least one cash desk for people who like to chat and aren't in a hurry. No manic buying here yet. That will come in Xmas week itself and again on NY Eve when they're all preparing their feasts.

Handyman sounds good @lizzie27. A keeper.

Have a good trip @Busy-Lizzie and a calm crossing.

Forgot to say yesterday's tea dance was good fun. More people than usual as it was a Telethon event with all proceeds going to medical research in rare diseases. Huge dance floor and a really good band and people dressed up. Haven't seen so many smart/elegant/glamorous/dressy frocks or so many thin women - all except 2 retirement age - in years. Some of them were old enough to shuffle as they entered and headed for their tables but boy could they move on the dance floor.

Aging gracefully with loads of smiles and energy. Wonderful.

We have ‘ten items or less (fewer)’ in most SMs but not a reduced mobility aisle or a chatting one @Obelix-Vendée !

So much great seasonal stuff in Diddly-Dee so I’ll do a specific trip next week to buy some foody treats - I’m talking stollen, caramelised biscuits, Lebkuchen, biscuits that hang on your mug…then I’ll do another trip for some fresh and savoury bits.

Enjoyed my meal out. My antipasti was very good value. I brought half home for supper, but am still full from lunch!
Finished off with a small torta al limone. 20241128_125750.jpg

What a lovely meal, @Penny_Forthem! My mouth is watering, I’d better go and get myself some tea.
@AuntyRach, we popped in to ‘diddly Dee’ last week, and I bought stollen, a small panettone ( for delicious bread and butter pudding) and two sorts of lebkuchen - I’ll have to go back for more, as OH was tempted and has started on one pack of them. I was hoping to get some of their packs of individual Christmas puddings with brandy and aloe gin, but I didn’t see any this year. Might look for some of their own brand cherry liqueur for cocktails, and their Riesling is delicious and a bargain. I did try the Sainsbury’s scan as you shop thingy last time. Didn’t realise that all I needed was my Nectar card to work it. It certainly saved a lot of time, as I could use the self service tills, but didn’t have to restrict myself to a small number of items. It did mean that I bought more than I usually do!
@Goldenlily26, we had a covenant on our current house, which forbade us to put up fairground rides and stalls among other restrictions! The owner of the covenant, who had built the house originally, was long dead, and it was determined that the rules had died with him. As yet, I have managed to restrain myself from exercising my freedom in this matter! I do hope someone can manage to dig out the old deeds from somewhere. I don’t know how much the Land Registry charge to look at the online copies?

Off to Diddly dee tomorrow. Lidldiddly dee seems better for charcuterie, while Aldididdly dee is better for cheese. I really must get a life.
OH's turn to cook on Saturday - he's chosen a Hungarian pork goulash from the Ginger Pig recipe book.

@Goldenlily26 and @Penny_Forthem, I am with you in the unsolicited calling cards and mine all get put into the recycle bin immediately. I also get hacked off with those who knock on my dooe despite me having a 'No Cold Callers' poster in my window. One cheeky rip just responded with 'I can't read'. I replied that 'I don't deal with illiterates'. He got the message - especially as my neighbour was watching him. I hope that you have luck in sorting out the covenant puzzle.

Good morning everybody. Another week has flown passed. I made up my mind to write some Christmas cards yesterday and then made a shock discovery, I haven't got any! I felt a bit like Dawn French in the M&S advert only I haven't the assistance of an alter ego fairy! Panic visit to eBay! Hopefully they don't take an age to arrive.

I have delivered Bryn to his doggy daycare - apparently, there's a crazy sprocker there today, so much fun will be had!
@Ladybird4 you have made me realise that I have no cards either. I'll call at the Barnardo's charity shop and buy some from them. Either them or dogs' trust.
Am a bit cross, as Amazon has "lost" a secret santa gift for a friend. Have bought another, so jolly well hope I get a refund (and that they don't lose this one!)

Good grief that is disappointing @Penny_Forthem. I got an email advising me that an item I ordered will be delivered today between 08:00 and 20:00. It actually arrived yesterday at 13:20 . At least I got it! I think you will get your refund. Fingers crossed.

                              Good morning all.

It's election day here in Ireland, so of course it's raining... the result won't be known for some time, because of our voting system (single transferable vote). I've been reading up about how it works; we were living here for the last general election, but ineligible to vote because we'd not been here long enough. There are eleven candidates in our constituency, and I could vote for them all if I wanted - giving each a number to indicate my preference. My head began to spin as I read how the single transferable vote system works - it becomes quite complicated! However, it does result in a government which reflects the views of the people of Ireland, and generally ends up with governing parties less polarised in their views than, say, in the British system. The last government consisted of a coalition between the two major centre parties and the Greens.

I think I'll spend the rest of the morning doing bits of jobs, including some batch cooking, and hope the promised drier afternoon materialises - otherwise it'll be a wet walk to the polling station.

Drismal here today but not sopping or blowy. Another indoor day as I do try to protect arthritic bits from cold and damp.

@Liriodendron it is complicated but does lead to calmer results with no huge swings from right to left. On the other hand, it once took the Belgians over a year to agree on a new government which can seem appalling to outsiders but the daily business of government went on. As for voting itself, imagine my horror when presented with a sheet of lists 3'/90cm wide! More than I'd bargained for after seeking explanations of the system.

@Penny_Forthem I had an Amazon delivery for the patch club go astray. The system was telling me it was delivered on the 9th but, by the 16th, still no sign so I asked for a refund so I could order the goodies again in time for our Xmas projects workshops. They readily agreed and apologised. Later that day, the items turned up and I asked them to cancel the refund. Too late they said but thanked me for being honest and told me to keep them as a good will gesture.

                                @Ladybird4 love that Tigger poster.
