Some visitors to my garden

Some photos taken earlier in the year of visitors to my garden.

This may sound a daft qu, but has that robin only got one leg? Incredible sense of balance, if so, as it has a very rounded tum!

 

Lovely photos, Will Hay. It’s years since I saw a starling.

 

The starling is often dismissed but when you see them in the sunshine they just glow. We watched some of the magpies recently in our orchard. They have fabulous colour and wing structure. Lovely photos @Will Hay of our beautiful garden birds.

 

Not a daft question, if you check my other posts on here you will read that unfortunately this little Robin had his foot trapped in a mouse trap.
I freed him and he flew away. I didnt think he would survive such a traumatic injury and I was so upset when it happened. Couple of weeks later he reappeared in the garden and stay with me around the garden until April this year when I am guessing he went over the rainbow bridge.

But between the time of the injury and April he would appear at my back patio knowing that I had food for him and even feed from a container I held out for him. We took loads of photos of the little guy, I will upload more.

In April the visits stopped and when I mean visits he was constantly at the Patio door or by my shed. He would even appear out the front whilst I washed my car! So like I said the visits stopped we feared he was gone and our fears were correct. We know have a robin with two feet but he aint "our" robin and he never approaches me or the house!

More often than not "our" Robin would tuck he bad leg and hope around on one

 

Have a small group that frequent the garden. I only put food out in the mornings and along with the house sparrows they would be waiting.

I love corvids but they are too smart and too many to have a constant source of food on display.

 

I love ALL birds and that includes Starlings they are so brave and will mix it with Jackdaws and Rooks when trying to get food

 

An addition to this story was that after a while a female blackbird copped on that wherever the Robin went there was bound to be food so she watched and followed the Robin!!

Yes, I believe so! What a lovely thing you did for 'your' one-legged robin. Heart-warming.

 

What a lovely experience, @Will Hay. I'm very impressed the robin managed with one leg. Ain't nature a marvel?

We get a lot of starlings round here. Noisy bunch!

Lovely pix @Will Hay . I also had a little one legged robin a few years ago. One day I was kneeling down at a border, and I became aware of something on my ankle. Just as well I turned and saw him , or I might have sat on him
He regularly came and got food, and hopped around nearby when I was out there. I got quite upset when he stopped coming....
I'd need to load up all my old pix, as I can't keep them all on this laptop. I had a couple of videos of him, but I couldn't figure out how to attach those either.

 

I have noticed this year a single blackbird which feeds at ground level, always in the same area of the Village Green. It does not seem afraid of dogs, Rob gets quite close to it before it relinquishes it patch. There is also a robin which frequents an area of the woodland walk, it seems to follow me as we walk around the path. I did think about taking some meal worms with me to offer them but am cautious of encouraging them close to dogs and humans.
