Well power finally came back Tuesday morning. Apparently National Grid will compensate to a fixed amount - I worked out it's supposed to be £255 based on the length of time. It will pay for the freezer contents but not for the hassle eg making up more swede and banana mashes for my attempts at orchid growing.
Volunteering at Pembrey Woods on Monday we had a few trees to haul away from the access roads - the winds seem to have swirled around. A worrying cracking of the soil at the base of one pine near our work shed which NRW may have to remove. The neighbour who has the ex-forester's house 100 yards away had a huge pine come down - massive trunk and top growth but tiny root plate (growing nearly pure sand)

Gosh, el3ctricity must be high there, if that's for three and a half days! You must have had a full freezer of meat.

They have a standard scale - £95 after the first 48 hrs without power, then £40 for every further 6 hours.
It doesn't seem related to power cost, though UK apparently does have one of the highest costs per unit.

One consolation - the inside of my freezer now looks like one in a show home - shiny and practically empty!
