You mean you haven't climbed onto your roof to fix one climbing down the chimney.

    I thought everyone did that.

I'm happy to say I absolutely disagree with your sweeping generalisation, @simone_in_wiltshire ! Everybody has a life history and a wealth of experience which has value and interest. What they do, think and say may not accord with your views, and may not add much to the overall sum of human knowledge, but that doesn't make their life worthless, or mean that they have no personality. The world needs workers as well as leaders.

Sorry, don't know why my comment (above) ended up in the "quote" box...

Incidentally, I can't find @Bluejayway 's original comment to which you were referring, @simone_in_wiltshire .

        @Liriodendron Bluejayway’s comment is on page 11.
My harsh judgment is not about different opinions but about life experience. My deep refusal of group behaviour started at school and later in life, I struggled to accept that social communication skills at work were more important than the actual work that was done.

Have you always found the good doctor or plumber with the first try? I don’t. 4 were rubbish and the 5th made all the difference. That makes 4 taxpayers and 1 that changes the world.

I thought all the inflatables would have been demolished in the storms. The house near me with about 8 of the things must have taken them in last week as they are still ‘alive’.

Fundamentally, I agree with you @simone_in_wiltshire when it comes to rejecting social convention and ploughing one's own furrow, as an individual (particularly as an introvert).

But when you mention life experience, do you mean your own? I was fortunate enough to have a very supportive family, who helped me cope with life as someone who's "a bit different". Yes, I've been irritated by lazy or incompetent people, but I'd be unwilling to write them off as lacking in personality or uninteresting. For all I know they might be one of the world's great thinkers, about to astound everyone with a work of genius, and just trying their hand at plumbing to make ends meet...

              Nothing wrong with that. :)

I was talking about Social group and Group dynamics. That's what Bluejayway found so difficult to fulfil the norms in these constellations.

I've yet to see one of those huge inflatables last more than a week at most here. I don't know why they bother, but maybe it's hope over experience.....:heehee:

I quite like Christmas but there is one thing, I really don't care for e-cards and never bother opening them. Mrs JWK is very traditional and keeps lists of who has sent proper cards and who she has responded to, she likes to have the cards displayed on the bookshelves, can't do that with an e-card and those generic messages that come with them involve no effort, might as well not bother.

Is it too early to crack open the chocolate and mince pies?

Thought not! ‘tis the season to abuse your digestive system.

So far, I have one bauble up … which is one more than I managed last yr, so I am feeling quite festive. :star:

I recently received an email from Octopus informing me that next year I will "have to have a new electricity meter box fitted with a Smart meter". If I do not I "could" be charged wrong amounts on my electricity bill.
I replied saying I did not want a Smart meter, I knew how much power I was using, when I used it and what appliances I used. What alternative meter was available.
The reply was, there is not one. They thanked me for sharing my usage information.
Is this veiled threat to make me have a Smart meter? My sister is with Octopus and she hasn't received this nugget of information from Octopus, nor does she have a Smart meter.

I think it is always a good idea to get into training for big endurance events, also make sure you warm up properly on the day.

@Goldenlily26, my understanding is you can only be forced to have a smart meter if your current meter is at the end of its life and no equivalent exists to replace it. If you have to have a smart one, you can insist they set it to dumb mode. Then it will not send Octopus readings.

I believe @shiney is our resident expert on the topic, so he may know differently, in which case I am happy to be corrected. :)

@NigelJ, I will start my training with immediate effect. :blue thumb:

You don't have to have a smart meter installed unless, as @ViewAhead says, yours has come to the end of its life.

If they are trying to make you take one when it is not physically necessary the best thing, if they refuse to accept your rejection of it, is to contact Citizen's Advice.

They no longer make analogue meters so if yours it at the end of its life then you will have to take one. I would have it checked by another company if they say it is at the end of its life and if they are willing to do so and find it OK then change to them.

Yes, you can have it set on dumb mode except in certain circumstances.
