@Michael Hewett I think they are looking to set up their own business selling plants, probably house plants and they are doing some market research.
I looked at the original thread as it struck as an odd thing to ask.

Thank you, they should have mentioned it in the first comment then ...

Oh, house plants, did not realise that is what’s intended. I am instant death to those so will not offer any further suggestions!

That's a good point. I know zip about plant passports but this last winter I studied pest control management and that was an intense course which, over here, is mandatory for those who sell or warehouse or grow plants as their business.

If selling from your home and non-commercial no licence is necessary which makes it easy for charity work.

It's pretty much "unofficial" that those regulations aren't enforced for non commercial groups. Charity sales are never pestered nor someone selling a division of their back garden peony. And good too!

If it is houseplants that you are wanting to sell then you would either need to buy them in bulk and make less profit or go for really rare cultivars that sell for a higher margin. The selling in bulk would be easier locally and the market normally decides what they want. I don't want to sound negative but cheaper houseplants have so much competition that it would be very hard to get established. The problem with more expensive cultivars is the initial cost, finding them and then the market being very fickle and the prices plummeting when they are mass produced abroad.

                      Oh dear Michael. Calm down!
Sometimes when a query is posted it receives a lot of comments, running into several pages so you have to go back to page 1 to read the original question/comment. Also, sometimes the replies go off at tangents so again, you have to refer to page 1 for the original post.
It sounds as if you need to get out of bed the other side and make a fresh start to the day.
Christmas is nearly here, be happy, polite and kind. Hopefully you will feel less grumpy.
Almost everyone who contributes to this forum are friendly gardeners who try to give supportive answers, often to brand new gardeners with little or no horticultural knowledge. Shysters are soon spotted and winkled out. No question is too silly to be asked, gardeners are great sharers, especially with advice and sympathy.
Enjoy your day and be happy.

I did read the original comment and it asked what plants are people buying, so I said I buy cacti, but it has become apparent that wasn't what the person writing the comment wanted to know.
He should have explained properly what he wanted.

And I am quite calm
and I am always polite etc - ask the other members (I've been here several years now, unlike you who's been here 2 minutes and obviously don't know me) so I don't need to get out of bed the other side and make a fresh start - anyway the bed is against a wall so I couldn't do that if I wanted to.

I usually block rude people so this is the last you'll hear from me ... so d
on't reply to this because I won't be able to see it.

@Michael Hewett I think your answer about buying a cacti for your collection was quite reasonable as many people consider cacti and succulents to be house plants.
Also the original poster has not given much information about their intentions and I think that any information about peoples plant buying habits could be of use, be that outdoor or indoor plants.

Not really sufficient in my case, more like “totally indestructible even for a moron” just might do the trick:).

Afraid the OP has not really responded so we have little idea of what their plans are.

That said they do not seem to be already in the Horticultural trade so thinks that a massive disadvantage as not knowing that market, products or contacts etc makes them very vunerable to costly mistakes.

Starting up a new business can be difficult enough but not having experience in that field or a USP will need a large amount of hard work and luck !

Would suggest the OP avoid the mistakes you often see on the Dragons Den TV program where they mortgage their houses and souls , take out massive loans on ideas that seldom work.
