I’m sure energy companies qualify as grinches!

I have embarked on my festivities - one Stollen bite consumed, one bar of dark chocolate with candied orange pieces opened, and I’ve gone mad with the baubles!

 

@Philippa how can your meter be "sending" incorrect readings unless it already is a smart meter?

 

We've had a smart meter for several years and as far as I'm aware we haven't been offered any discount for using less leccy at particular times. Are we missing out, or does it only apply in some areas? Grinch potential there!

I have put up some Christmas lights in my living room - I like my blingy decorations and I'm not a total Christmas-avoider, I just don't like the big parties etc where I'm expected to make small-talk with people who I don't know well.

 

Mmm, stollen bites... must go shopping... maybe wait until morning though.

 

I think it depends who your supplier is.

 

@shiney, you woke me up. I have around 40 hours of cookie baking to do to make my trays to give to friends and neighbours and I have to get it done evenings and this coming weekend else I'll need to get a loan to pay the bill.

 

It may be worth checking with your current supplier @JennyJB to see if they offer a smart tariff with differential pricing for electricity or visit a comparison website like Uswitch. Octopus offers an agile tariff for example.

My energy supplier is giving us free electricity on Christmas Eve, Chr Day, and Boxing day

The trouble is I am now on my own so don't have big dinners etc to cook, but I will be using it to do some baking (which I quite enjoy) and my Christmas won't be wasted getting bored sitting in front of the tv watching rubbish ...

I'm going to get all the ingredients I haven't already got in the house, and after I've done the baking I'll put some things in the freezer, and keep some to eat

That'll be good @Michael Hewett. It would certainly be useful having a cheaper time for folk who are cooking large dinners, but you could maybe do some batch cooking for dinners too. Of course, you'll then have to eat all the baking so that you have room for those. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it!
My daughter made mince pies and gingerbread biscuits to take to work. I get a few leftovers, but mainly the washing up....
The biscuits aren't quite as adventurous as the ones we made some years ago. We got a bit carried away with some of the designs...

 

Last Christmas I gave my new neighbours a card and a pack of Christmas themed paper napkins as a sort of hello and happy Christmas rolled into one. Two days later, my neighbour arrived at my door with a card and a box of Danish butter cookies. Thank you, said I, worried that she had spent a lot more on the cookies than I had on the napkins. They were from Aldi, so I looked at Aldi’s website to see how much she had spent. Not a sign of them. But I did find them on ebay. I can’t remember the price, and I don’t know much about ebay, but would I be right in thinking that they weren’t exactly Aldi’s “current stock”, to put it politely. And if so, what present does anyone think I should give them this year?
