I didn't quite get to the end of your video, @Fat Controller, but I can always come back to it :D ... I think the gist of it seemed to be that charging points are a bit hit and miss at present. I wonder if 'universal charging components' will be the norm, eventually!?

Sums it up quite well - the car itself was really quite good, the infrastructure, not so much. I think the connections etc have been pretty much standardised, but there seems to be issues with software talking to each other

Poor journalism by the BBC though, Stellantis is investing in their Ellesmere port while shutting their factory in Luton.

I think the whole car market in the UK has been in decline for some years now, new registrations peaked in 2016 in the UK with nearly 2.7million new car registrations. As of the end of October, there has been just over 1.6million new car registrations in the UK this year, with private buyers showing the biggest decline.

Not surprising the way things have gone in the last 10yrs.
Nobody knows which way to jump and the price hike to get a comparable EV makes people think twice.
Personally I could move to an EV quite easily, I don't do long distances, but I can't afford a new one and really wary of buying second hand.
You now also have the tax changes kicking in which seem to be as complicated as possible.

Occasional fruity language in this one, but this is a half-decent view on EV's and Vauxhall Luton in particular.

It looks like new BEV's are going to be more expense especially for those who lease new cars. Monthly repayments are likely to increase to offset the losses in the second hand market.

This current government keep going on, how growing the economy was essential, yet they seem to be doing everything to cause the economy to contract, not grow.

One also has to wonder what damage is being done, globally, by the way that this tech is being foisted up on people that are really unsure about it. The frustrating thing is, if they left alone and simply gave a tax break or perhaps a subsidised finance offer for EV's and then let the market and products sell themselves, we might get somewhere.

Whilst I almost have petrol running through my veins, there are some EV's that are really quite likeable and downright impressive - Renault's new 5 being a prime example. Too small for us to be our all-rounder, but a hellish impressive package that would even have me thinking 'could I compromise somewhere' -- I suspect many folks are like me though... a) can't afford the price for an EV at the size and spec wanted and b) cannot stand the feeling of being coerced/bullied into doing something.

The net result, I am likely to sit on the Volvo for some years I reckon - it is currently on a PCP, so in theory I swap it out in about 18-24 months time, but as it stands I am more likely to finance the balloon and keep it. Without people like me buying the 3 year old cars, the cycle dies and they struggle to get the residuals they need at the end of the leases on the new cars.

In the main car park at the park this morning, two charging points, two cars parked, both showing green lights, might be wrong as I assume that means both are fully charged??

Bit of a pain if you turn up and want to charge yours.

Maybe you should get an alert on your mobile phone when your car is charged and a surcharge if you dont move it with 10 minutes.

At our local petrol station earlier and a genuinely 54 reg car was parked in one of the charging bays. No surprise it was a BMW! It wasn't a personalise reg, the car looked knackered.

It is a difficult one this - if indeed that does mean they are charged, then given that charging is still relatively sparse, you'd think that they should be moved... but then, if you'd parked up and gone off to do something while your car charged (or more accurately, were going off to do something and took the opportunity to charge your car whilst it was parked) then you'd surely want to complete whatever it was you were doing. The car being fully charged for however many hours of that task would/should be irrelevant.

Our local Park & Ride has a number of charging points, but if somebody is parking an EV out of town and using the bus they aren't going to be coming back in an hour or so to move their car. That is another of the great shortcomings of EV charging.

That's my point, its where the whole concept falls down, until every parking space has a charger its not going to work, especially on motorways, people hogging chargers are going to be the ones everyone hates.

Admittedly the local park is not the same but its really problematic unless they get it sorted.

Again its a case of the cart before the horse, in exactly the same way as building houses before infrastructure.
All this demanding things change with no real investment is crazy, people will change if you make it easy for them, they are doing the opposite, and then just add taxes to change minds.

I have no idea about the charging cable - is it permanently attached to the charge station and plugs into the car, or does the car have to lug it's own cable to plug into a socket on the station?
I wonder if they can fit splitters to the stations to free up some charge points
