I can’t think of any other example where someone can be asked if they would like to top up entitlement and then, having done so, be told they won’t gain but can’t have the money back. It is egregious mis-selling frankly.

Meanwhile, drug someone multiple times, rape them multiple times in the “safety” of their own home, and invite others to do the same … and you only get 20 yrs!

How the institutions of the world (and the men making the rules by which these operate) loathe women!

Very many years ago (well before they became the DWP) I wanted to retire just a bit early and in those days you needed 44 years of National Insurance for a full pension. I was a couple of years short but asked whether I could top up those years. They said, yes but I would need to also sign on each week. I asked why and was told that's what the rules said. I told them the idea was for me to do voluntary work so I wouldn't be able to sign on. "Them's the rules!"

So I had a word with my MP about it and it was all sorted out. I never did find out what happened.

In fairness, I think it is more those who are in positions of power hate us minions.

A good long while ago, I got my first pension forecast (this was before you could do it online and get it immediately, you had to apply and wait for it to come in the post) . There was a year's contributions missing, and I knew they'd been paid because I was still working for the same (small) company so I wandered through to the accounts office and asked, and they (of course) had the records to prove it.

After much messing about contacting the DWP (or whatever it's predecessor was called back then), no easy online communications then, they first denied having received the contributions, then when I told them my employer had the evidence and was prepared to pursue the matter if necessary, they claimed that the contributions had been lost when they transferred to a new computer system, and very grudgingly credited them. Now that pension forecasts are online I check every year at least, so far so good.

@JennyJB Details held online are only as good as the information input to that system. From my experience of DWP systems, that isn't guaranteed to be accurate. At one point when I was working for them there was a backlog of about 6 months on 'changes'. That is any information provided by claimants after the initial claim.

True … but they exhibit a particularly spiteful contempt towards women. Religions, governments, the legal system, huge parts of the media, you name it.

Apparently one of the rapist’s defence was he was the victim as he had not consented to being filmed. :wallbanging:

A particularly horrid case and a stain on humanity in my opinion. Jail is too good for them.

You should have taken a photo of it and sent it to the boss of his company as a Christmas card.

The same happened to Mrs JWK @cactus_girl. She voluntarily topped up her missing National Insurance credits which was money we could ill afford at the time. Soon after, the government reduced the number of years needed to get the full state pension, think it dropped to 35. She asked for it back but was told there was no chance, it went to tribunal but lost. So she got no benefit for topping up.

More money down the drain to follow our losses from the equitable life pension collapse and recent waspi scandal. Think we both would have been better off just gambling on the horses instead of saving for our future. At least we would have had a bit of excitement.
