Being a grumpy old man, if I come across a post with acronyms that I don't know I just ignore the whole post. :noidea: I don't think I'm missing out on anything - but wouldn't know and, probably, don't care. :heehee:

To be fair, if it wasn't for Mrs C, I would be unlikely to bother having a TV. As long as I have a decent broadband I am happy. I, once upon a time, installed aerials for a living and know only too well what it can be like getting signal in some areas. Satellite was often the only answer in fact. The advent of Channel 5 also threw a lot of curve balls in when it came to bad areas... my goodness, when I think of the work that caused and all dark and distant history now.

You think you are grumpy? Given my pain levels today, as they say "hold my beer..."

I've always stuck up for the BBC but beginning to wonder these days. Their output often seems to consist of sport, celebrities in a jungle ( wish they'd leave them there ) , on a dance floor or giving some poor sap a garden/house makeover by a not particularly expert "expert. Not forgetting the endless repeats of course. Whilst BBC 4 often has some interesting documentaries, the World Service seems to be in decline as is Radio 4. Farming Today and the Shipping Forecast are often the most interesting items whilst the Today programme is now famous for being mostly unintelligible with presenters often gabbling rather than speaking clearly.
I'm not sure what audience the BBC is aiming for these days but I don't think those of us paying the annual licence fee ( due for another rise in 2025 ? ) are getting value for money.
Have to say tho that the other main TV channels are just as bad.
If you were into conspiracy theories, you could be forgiven for thinking that the intention is to fill people's mind with so much drivel that they become zombies

@NigelJ - winter fuel allowance and Tulip is a minister in the government with close personal ties to a family of Bangladeshi ex rulers being investigated for corruption and theft - - supremely ironic given her current government post in London.

As for waspi, my shift button is getting old and inconsistent.

The BBC has become weirdly obsessed by drag queens.

I used to love the BBC - started listening quite young, listening to the likes of Simon Mayo, Bruno Brookes, Liz Kershaw, Mike Reid but also listened to Jimmy Young, Terry Wogan (loved him.. but who didn't?!) and even the shipping forecast in the middle of the night. I still love the theme to this day.
Even in more recent years, my day would begin with Rico on the World News on the TV, then Sarah Kennedy in the car going to work, Terry Wogan, then a break while Jeremy Whine was on, then back for Steve Wright and on through to Simon Mayo at drivetime and beyond.

I simply feel that the BBC not only abandoned me, but allowed some pretty horrid stuff going on (remember Mr Lammy calling anyone who voted for Brexit a Nazi on Andrew Marr's show?), as well as being very 'preachy' (here is your daily dose of what you should think/do sort of attitude).. then went on to bang on about bias and misinformation when being one of the most guilty of it themselves (and having to apologise on more than one occasion); and don't get me started on their record on sexual misconduct. I still pay the licence, because I have to by law - and that is the only reason. If it were a subscription model, they wouldn't see a penny from me.. and they know full well that is exactly the scenario in many homes now, to the point that they would struggle to survive if they had to go down that path. Definitely not the "Auntie Beeb" we would all rush home from work on a Saturday to watch, that is for sure.

Yes, I too am legally obliged to pay the licence fee. The Jimmy Saville issue was probably the biggest Beeb " boob "in recent times but couldn't have been a shock to many - a creepy weirdo if ever there was one. I've never liked Greg Wallace and for me he spoiled the programme "Inside the Factory" with his silly comments and efforts at making jokes. I've long since given up watching the Chef stuff so no idea of his behaviour on there. Never been a fan of Sports but even if I had been, I wouldn't have understood the salary paid to Gary Lineker. Crazy IMO. Biggest recent shock for me was the Huw Edward story - I'd always considered him to be one of the best and most "serious" broadcasters of recent times - just shows how wrong you can be
Too many cover ups and people remaining on the pay roll despite evidence of their unsuitability ( polite term ).

I was waiting in for a delivery today - nothing to do with Christmas, a gardening tool. I saw the DPD van in my street in the slot they'd given me, but it was parked a couple of doors down. I thought maybe he had other deliveries in the street and would walk up, so I waited but no-one came, and when I looked out again he was gone. Then I got the "sorry we missed you" email through. Arrgh!

I won't place an order now if DPD are involved. A year ago I ordered a new i-Pad from 'The Official Samsung Shop' but I never received it. DPD gave me seven separate delivery dates and then cancelled each one on the day. On the final day I made sure I was gardening in the front garden all afternoon and still they didn't turn up. But at the end of that day they sent me an official tracking message saying it had been delivered. It hadn't and more importantly they had no photographic proof to show to Samsung. It had been stolen early on in the proceedings and somebody in DPD had tried to repeatedly to cover it up by creating false tracking messages whilst wasting lots of my time and turning me into a gibbering wreck. I was eventually compensated by Samsung but at the time nobody would believe me. However I'd taken copies of all the tracking messages & emails which supposedly showed the item repeatedly travelling back & forth the full length of the country and showed what a total sham it had been.

Well they're going to try the delivery again tomorrow so I will be watching the street for the whole hour slot, and if I see the van I will go down and collar them. I suspect they tried to deliver to the wrong house, and that neighbour wasn't answering. Not that there's anything complicated about the numbering on our street, but delivery people frequently fail to grasp that the number on the letter/parcel is supposed to match the number on the door. I once came out of the front door and found a huge, sopping wet parcel leaning against the side of my porch which was addressed to my next door neighbour.

I'm not worried that anyone's deliberately trying to steal it, because it's a long handled pruning tool. Tech is a different matter, I've heard all sorts of stories about the thefts going on there. Sometimes the item is removed and replaced with something else, e.g. a box of dried dog food instead of a tablet.

They are not the worst here. They phoned and wouldn't wait 10 minutes for T'other Half to drive to our Post Box but said they would leave it at a drop shop so To had to go find this shop and there it was (my plant from Italy. GLS is the worst here.
