I don't do apps @ViewAhead except for the SM one and Merlin for birds. I don't do cookies either and leave any site that insists.

There are two ways to think about cheap food. "Wow, cheap food is great" or "Wow, they must really be squeezing farmers to the point where they can't afford to produce it"
No need to worry though we can always import it from southern Europe, Africa.....

I gave up buying fresh veg from Morrisons after noticing that it was chilled to the point just below freezing.
Better put your 2025 Christmas card in the post before too long @ViewAhead if sending via Royal Mail - with luck your friend may just get it in time

I dont consider fresh veg expensive anyway to be honest.

But lots of moans around here as the local Morrisons have a problem and people were being charged normal prices when they got to the tills.
So now Morrisons are going to have to reimburse everyone who has bought any today.
They said they will do it via points on the app.;)

Yes, that's how I found that tweet. I noticed that Morrisons was trending on X and had a look to see why.
It's the "something stinks" bit that makes me laugh, like there's some evil conspiracy going on. When the truth is that a group of the supermarkets suddenly decided to undercut everyone else.

I went into Morrisons on Friday about 6pm, and their 10p veg section was completely stripped bare. Not even a single brussels sprout to be seen. I can't imagine that everyone's suddenly become so keen on veg, I bet it's hospitality businesses buying them up.

I was in there a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't find a bag to put a few brussel sprouts in, every bag container was empty, so nobody could buy loose stuff even though it was available.

I couldn't find any staff in that area, but they had pallets and pallet trucks blocking a lot of the aisles, it really gone to pot recently.
Someone said it had changed hands, I'm not sure, I do know they have put all their petrol stations out to franchise or something similar.
Our one now smells like a curry house when you go in there.

Morrisons is a joke since it got sold off to the Americans. Managers were
sacked, deli etc scaled back so much so its laughable, hardly any fresh bakery now, trying to sell dead plants, pallets lying about, mainly self checkouts, expensive.
Only good thing is I have a freezer full of sirloin because of a pricing glitch last year

Also lately they often seem to lock the little gates where you exit the self scan area. So you can't escape until you can attract the attention of a member of staff. I guess it's something to do with theft prevention, like those cabinets they lock up all the expensive booze in. If I want to buy spirits now I just go elsewhere, I can't be bothered with finding a member of staff to unlock it for me.

The spirits in my store are now behind the counter, like in the old off licence days and you pay for it at a till there.
They have installed stupid doors to all cold cabinets which means the people who like to use the trolley as a weapon can stop you opening at least four of them without even trying very hard.

Despite all the grumbles, our grandmothers would have been in awe of the sheer availability, the long shelf lives, the extended opening hrs, the incredible convenience of it all. :)

That's true. When I first started work all shops kept to office opening hours, apart from a few little corner shops. (Actually it was less than office hours due to half day closing). The only time I could shop for groceries was on a Saturday, when it was crazily busy. Especially since the retired people still seemed to insist on shopping on Saturdays.

Then we got a supermarket that stayed open until 6:30pm. It was amazing, I could shop on the way home from the office.

I remember half-day closing on Wed and Sat.

We’ve come a long way since our grandmas’ time. :)

We've come a long way in certain aspects, but not in others. The attitude and behaviour of customers is dire nowadays. Shop staff are under pressure [not to mention the regular abuse] all year round too, not just at this time of year.
We don't eat seasonally either, so there's a huge amount of food that has to be imported. In some ways that's good, as it means a wide variety of products, but it's bad in many ways too.
Hardly any supermarket is British owned either - maybe none of them.

All towns chose their own days as well, so you could go on a shopping trip to a neighbouring town thinking you were fine because half-day closing was Wednesday, and then find all the shops shut because theirs was a Tuesday. No internet to check beforehand of course!
