Do you mean you aren't a pheasant plucker's son ? :heehee:

My experience of physio is the complete opposite. It was fantastic for me when I ripped my rotator cuff after sliding down a frozen hill on my front. The girl looked about 15, [which was slightly disconcerting!] but she couldn't have been better. I could barely move my arm more than a few inches in any direction. Within a few months of religiously doing the exercises, I had as much functionality as I was ever going to get, and was able to do most things that I could do in the past. My arm's still achy at times, so some things are trickier than in the past, but I even did the exercises while out on hills, so that I could get the best result. I chipped a bit of bone off as well, but it's remained in place, so that didn't affect anything.

Hopefully no problems with the dinner here today @AuntyRach - but no pressure as it's just me and my girls, so no forced celebrations either. We wouldn't be bothered what food there was, so it'll be fine. Eric and Ernie on the telly too
Enjoy it whatever is going on - and tomorrow, maybe some normality.....

We don't do a lot for Christmas - don't do presents but we do have lights and decorations.
My grandchildren were down at the weekend and we took them around the estate to see all the lights. They loved them and enthused about every one. I felt very old jaded and cynical.

on another tack, the osteopath has helped a lot with my trapped (inflamed) nerve. I had to pay though but he had time to treat me as a whole person not just a neck! Too much lifting things I shouldn't in the garden!!

Whilst others will be burning their turkey, eating too many chocolates and forced to wear a paper hat… I’ll be in work this afternoon doing none of the above (ok I’m not against the eating chocolate part).

        Merry Grinch-mas!

A sad lack of "rotten turkey" posts on X this morning, in fact there's lots of people asking where the rotten turkey posts are ...

I did find a woman who was "really angry" that she'd found a caterpillar in her cauliflower, so her Christmas cauliflower cheese was ruined. Instead of just putting the harmless creature outside and washing the cauliflower, she's going to take it back to the shop and moan at them.

Re receipts:- the law is a bit stupid on it (that couldn't possibly be!) under the law a shop doesn't have to give a receipt but under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, businesses must provide proof of purchase if requested by the customer.

In my case, I always take the receipt if it is issued automatically, say yes if it is offered and ask for one if it isn't offered. I've never had a problem getting one. I also check the receipt before leaving the store as there can be mistakes on them.

Yesterday there was a silly mistake at Tesco. I always use the scan as you go gun as I like to pack my backs as I go round the store. Included in my shop were three sweet peppers. When I checked my receipt whilst at the checkout, but before paying, I found that I had been charged for 63 peppers (the total bill looked rather high :heehee:). The assistant came over and sorted it out in just a few seconds.

I always keep all receipts until I receive my monthly statement from the card company and check that they tally. They don't always tally and I can then contact them to get it sorted. Having been trained as an accountant it has become automatic to check all receipts and has proved worth it. I don't accuse shops of deliberately making mistakes as I have found that some mistakes have also been in my favour.

At our nearest big Sainsbury's you have to take your receipt (printed automatically) as the checkout doors won't open without you zapping the printed barcode on the end of it on the door reader.

Re being asked for email, address or phone number:- you don't have to give any of them but the shop is also entitled not to serve you if they wish.

Somewhere on this thread, about five pages back, a member posted a link about Asda (I think it was on X) but I wasn't able to see what it was about as I do not do social media and it wouldn't allow me to do anything without signing in. No loss to me :heehee:
As I'm a digital dinosaur :old: I'm still managing to get by in my old fashioned way. I've just been to the other side of the world, and back :roflol:, and was told I couldn't do that nowadays without QR codes on a mobile. Managed it OK.

I trust there's an alternate way to exit the store, if you decided not to buy anything?

In our old (and still missed) Wilko you couldn't actually get to an exit without going through a till.

Yes, it is only if you go though the automatic checkouts that you need to use the barcode. :blue thumb:

I always get a receipt too, especially as I use the automatic checkouts most of the time. It saves any problems occurring.
Our local Asda had to erect 'gates' at the entrance this year. The rise in shoplifting everywhere is beyond belief. It's not people who are genuinely in need either- it's gangs stealing to order, or taking the valuable stuff that they can flog on the fly. It's all us honest folk who are eventually paying the price for it.
I don't know what the solution is, but we need some kind of foolproof method of preventing it. Of course, even if they're caught, the punishments are derisory.

Hope your day wasn't too hellish @AuntyRach . I also used to work on Christmas day and New Year. Glad I don't have to do that now.

I saw someone commenting on X on the fact that the handbaskets in Asda had security tags on. This has been common in my local supermarkets for years now. It started when the shops were banned from giving out free plastic bags; shoppers thought they were entitled to take the basket instead - "how do you expect me to carry my shopping?". For a while it was impossible to find a basket because they'd all been nicked.

A while back our local Co-op removed all the baskets from the doorway because so many were being stolen. People too stupid to bring their own bags and too tight to pay for one. They have now reappeared. Baskets were provided from the till point which apparently did make people less likely to disappear with them. We had bought a lot of drinks, alcoholic and soft, on one visit and asked if we could take the baskets with us and drop them back off. The new manager wasn't too keen on the idea but one of the staff members said we'd been shopping there for years. When I took them back I made sure he saw them.

Someone here has commandeered one of the trolleys. She walks from her house to the Co-op and back again using it as a sort of zimmer frame as well as a basket. Too much “one of the locals” to be challenged.

I am still using the plastic bags that were first issued, free of charge, as 'replaced for life' but haven't tested out their boast as they are still in good condition. Although they get a lot of use it is only for a very short time for each shopping expedition. Place them in the trolley, fill them up, trolley them to the car and carry them from the car to the house. Almost no use.

I shop on foot so I have to have strong bags that are comfortable to carry. For that reason I've been making and using my own cotton shopping bags since long before the plastic bag ban. I use remnants from other sewing projects, or reuse old curtains etc, so new fabric is never purchased for these. My bags stand up to years of wear and are machine washable.
