I haven't seen any article about the over 70's and driving, so I'm just assuming it's one of the normal "click bait" ones design to make people worry. It sounds as though earlier in the thread, it was just an eye test and general health mot, which I don't think is unreasonable or anything to worry about, but it has now blown up to everyone must have a driving test, which I'd be highly surprised if that's what was happening.
My parents are over 70 and I'm fairly sure they had to have the doctor sign off on their new license. They have eye tests every year as well but I don't know if that goes on their record but it should be simple to do.

I doubt that many in the country, no matter their age, would pass a driving test again without specifically re-training for it.

You are supposed to own up to it but I guess many don't. When you apply you just have to say whether your sight is OK.

No, it all goes on trust. I've renewed a number of times.

They also ask you to cut the old licence in half and send it back to them. I guess almost nobody bothers to send it back. The silly thing is that you are supposed to cut it in half and send it back the moment you have applied for the new one. That would mean you don't actually have a licence to show the police if asked. :rolleyespink:

I agree. As with my rough calculations earlier, it would be a logistical and expensive nightmare.

I went to hire a car and my paper one came out the plastic wallet in about 10 pieces, a few years back, that's when I decided I needed a plastic one.

Yeah, we are, you just have to wonder how old someone who calls them self @Thevictorian actually is.:roflol:

The articles I mentioned did not state that a driving test was needed. Vision test and a health assessment only. Headline news.

Why do new driving licences require a photo ? What difference does it make ?

Every official document seems to require a photo as proof of ID ( bit of a joke these days considering the technology available ). Won't be long before we all need ID cards just to go shopping.

Personally I wouldn't mind ID cards.
Far too many people wandering around in the country that have no right to be here.

40 in a couple of years. It was a nickname from school because I don't have a mobile and the world is a bit busy for me. I'd be happy living a quiet life with some comforts of modernity.

I still have my 2 previous licences. If DVLA asked where they are I'd just say I sent them in the post and Royal Mail must have lost them.
