Just received my Chiltern Seeds Bargain Basement 10 packs. Seems a good selection and growable. I wonder if everyone gets the same or is it completely random?

@cactus_girl I've been growing lunaria chedglow for a few years now its been self seeding around lovely plant , you can't have any other lunaria annua around though or they will cross and you'll probably lose the foliage colouring . You're in for a long haul with the Arbutus nice trees though .

@Perki I'm looking forward to that lunaria. I need to go through all the seeds and look them up and do a timetable. I like to try something new.

I like trying a few new things too. I got some poppies from Chilterns in autumn - 'Purple Peony' and 'Black Swan' which, as the name suggests, are peony like, so it'll be interesting to see them - if I can manage to get them germinating and growing!
I collect lunaria locally from plants along verges, and I had a couple of small plants which I planted out last year. I'm hoping they grow away this year. It's a plant that reminds me of my Grandpa - the seed cases anyway.

That's a shame, @Bluejayway. They should become more plentiful in the next couple of weeks.

I caved in and ordered a 6 month subscription to Gardener's World for £14.99. I do this every year and then just look at the pictures.

Got Yellow Cestrum Nocturnum (Yellow Jasmine), a small plant, in the post today from Spain ...

She also included six cuttings of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Double White as I failed miserably trying to root last year ...

I bought 2 discounted evergreen ferns (Hart's Tongue - Asplenium Scolopendrium).
                        20250110_084033~2.jpg

In Spring, I plan to create two identical groups of plants, for a (mostly) shaded part of the garden. My plan is for each group to include one of these ferns, a hosta (Love Pat) and a heucherella (Brass Lanterns).

They are to go on each side of this path made with stepping stones:

Thanks @Victoria It's very much a work in progress - at this stage I actually find it a bit too empty for my liking, but I know I need to be patient. A lot of the plants haven't matured yet, others have recently being moved so they need to start again (e.g. the two climbing roses which should eventually cover that little pergola), plus I love deciduous plants so the garden takes a hit in Winter.. The area with the slate chippings was only created a month or two ago, I want it to have a lot of plants eventually so that it's more interesting and blends better with the lawn area.

My garden is north-west facing, so the patio only gets direct sun in the afternoon. (That was part of my reasoning for installing the patio circle, as a secondary area - it gets a lot more sun).
