I usually just start the car and turn on front and back heaters and go back indoors. :nonofinger::roflol:

Minus 3 and sunny with clear blue skies, for those wanting a bit more grip, something like these are good
Ice Grippers Anti Slip Universal Snow Spikes Crampons Boot Shoes Grips Cleats UK | eBay

I have some proper crampons, but these are better on tarmac.
For those de-frosting cars, be aware of using anything hot, windscreens are laminated and tough, but plastic on car lights can and will shatter if you were to pour hot water on them for example if they are frozen(I worked in a car factory for over a decade and learnt a few things about what not to do with your car).

Yes - definitely don't pour hot water directly on a windscreen @burnie!
The poly bag of warm water does a pretty good job though.
Yaktrax are the other thing you can use for icy pavements if you're not confident. I told a co worker about them a long time ago. They're basically coiled springs which attach to your shoes. Obviously- they aren't suitable for high heels :heehee:
We just used screws put into the bottom of boots when I worked outdoors. The soles have to be decent enough to hold them of course! I use them for the soles of my walking shoes as that's what wears away quickest. Re your comment about Merrells - I find them poor quality now, because even with Vibram soles they don't last. I always used them as they fit me so well, but they've declined considerably, which is a great pity. I go through walking shoes every 6 months or so, so I now just buy the cheaper ones.

Once when we'd had a fair bit of snow (might have been December 2009) I saw a young woman in stiletto heels (admittedly a tatty old-looking pair) in the local shop. I commented that she was a braver woman than I. She said actually they were easy to walk in because the heels dug into the snow. Which is actually a good bit of lateral thinking, ice-axes for feet, but she must have been freezing with no socks or tights on under them.

That's very useful @Victoria, thank you. On my computer I have to click rather than hover, then you can click on the google photos. Anyone worried, the photos are of the local area, not your house and garden .

Cold, bright and sunny again today with a slight breeze. Washing is out on the line - like yesterday the breeze should stop it from freezing solid before it dries.

While I don't love the cold (or it's effect on the gas bill) and generally avoid going further than the bins and washing line if it's icy, I find it more cheerful than when we get a spell of relentlessly grey and dull non-weather.

Much harder frost here today still minus 3 , quite a bit of hoare frost on everything.
@Retired personally I wouldn't put anything greasy on rubber seals as dust and dirt can stick. If you can find any old fashioned silicone wax Polish applied sparingly is best (it's brilliant on plastic curtain rails too).

It's about minus 2C here at the moment, very crisp and cold. There's no wind and it's dry and bright so good for an afternoon walk. Fatsias are good at letting you know it's cold!

It was still a few degrees below zero when I took my dog for a walk here in norwich but it's sunny and clear. It's nice when it's frosty because the dogs love rolling in it but the thing I like the most is it stops the mud.

It's been cold but nothing out of the norm for the last few days and that seems like the trend over the weekend.

One thing I noticed yesterday, the snow and ice on pavements means cyclists are now using the roads .

The frost was heavy overnight but it looks all melted on the car now? Unless it’s turned from white to clear? It’s supposed to be max 2 degrees today and remaining cold all weekend.

My fatsia's looking droopy too, but it'll bounce back. It's been through worse weather than this (it's pretty old, already mature when we bought the house in 1988).
