It’s not as cold outside (3 degrees) but the house is still cold - it usually takes a few days to warm-up after a cold spell. If the sun could come out, that would be good.

Cloudy this morning and just above freezing on my temperature gauge doodad, but the frost from yesterday (and a bit of the snow from last weekend) is still lingering in the places where the sun never got to it. The ground is still frozen hard too.

Another hard frost overnight, but now 2 degrees and cloudy, not a breath of wind, the forecast is that warmer and windier and wetter is on the way.

My water butts have frozen solid, the first time ever. Living in the South East perhaps I've been lucky.

Mine have frozen in other years, probably not one solid lump of ice but all around the outside and on top.

The forecast sun never materialised, but we have reached the heady heights of 4C! The frost on the ground has gone but the water butts still have a thick layer of ice, rigid, doesn't move if you poke at it. That'll probably take a few days to melt. The pop bottles 3/4 full of salt water tha I put in a couple of winters ago are still doing the job of absorbing the expansion, so fingers crossed the butts haven't been damaged.

                                Hi,

It feels much warmer this afternoon and the ice & snow are melting in the sunshine; actually a lovely sunny day.

I've locked myself out of the garage/workshop; I think the keys are inside; we have a spare key but now it's wanted it's gone walkabout never to be found again. Never mind there's access through the floor in the office so yesterday afternoon pulled up the carpet and underlay; problem after problem; when I recently installed our walk in shower I completely forgot about this access so ran a water pipe right across the middle of it also when I replaced the electric consumer unit I did some rewiring so now there's a cable also in the way.

I could of course call in a locksmith but I'm not yet beaten; I've made a pair of lock picking tools and just been trying to use them; now I have a bitterly cold shower dropping on me from the decking directly above. When the decking stops wetting itself I'll have another try. Just typical of my good luck. :wallbanging:

Another hospital day tomorrow and repeat again on Wednesday; what fun I have.

A friend told me blackbirds like apples so I put an apple out yesterday and half has already gone. Robins are enjoying the meal worms.

                                Kind regards, Col.
