I find if I need the loo I do get prior warning. Then I've got say 30 mins to find a loo. Do men get this? Me and hubby will be in the car and suddenly it's an emergency and he has to find a hedge.

As for women on pavements! It takes me ages to pull my jeans up and then I'd probably fall over.

I always wondered if anyone has produced a loo availability guide with GPS tracking.

Elon Musk is allegedly consulting with Dominic Cummings on UK politics. :hate-shocked: Now, that is a pairing from your worst nightmare. We will just have to hope Trump keeps EM busy over the pond.

Most of the time I'm OK but tend to find that the moment I drive into our driveway after being out a while I need to go! :noidea:

Of course, urine is good for the compost heap as it is high in nitrogen and works well as long as you are using leaves or paper/cardboard as well so the carbon content balances it out.

No problem in our garden as we are not overlooked :heehee:

The big problem is most local authorities used covid as an excuse to close nearly all public toilets .
I really feel sorry for people who work out and maybe travelling all day, if there are toilets available you probably aren't allowed to stop.
I've had various bladder problems and it's definitely not a joke when you need to go.
There are of course the so called night time economy bunch that use shop doorways, but again it's mostly down to there not being the places to go. Let's face it we all need to do it, one way or another.

A friend of mine’s aunt lived in a huge house( Binny House) 4BD9263D-3FD7-46E4-85A8-EF7FBBD89952.png which she eventually donated to The Sue Ryder foundation. The house was very old and did not have many bathrooms so a potty was put under the beds for guests to use in the night if necessary.
The aunt was praised for her wonderful displays of roses but was always a little reluctant to give away her secret to success.
She did, however, eventually admit that the contents of any potties were not put down the toilets but were added to the compost used to feed her roses!
The tradition of growing good plants continues today as there is a garden nursery operating in the grounds of Binny House which specialises in tree peonies. They are very nice but not cheap!!!

@cactus_girl your post reminded me of an incident some years ago when my wife and I were out for a long walk in the country. She was suddenly desperate to go so I said to hide behind a tree, as there was no sign of anybody around. She'd just got settled when the Devil whispered in my ear and I had no choice but to call out that somebody was coming. In he desperation to cover up she ended up on her face, showing a full moon. She was less than impressed when I finally managed to stop laughing and said nobody was coming.

That reminds me about being caught short while out in the middle of nowhere. Got husband to stop the car with a steep bank behind it so thought I was pretty safe to have a pee between the car and the bank. What I didn’t know was that there was a farmer sitting in his tractor above the bank and had a birdseye view of everything….mortified:).

A sign nearby saying "CCTV in operation" may deter some of them @Jiffy, apart from any exhibitionists . Where my brother lives in a small group of barn conversions there's a communal bin area near the road which was becoming a convenient place for passers by to dispose of their rubbish. As soon as the sign went up, it stopped!

With all the phone boxes being removed now there are fewer places for men to pee ..
Do you remember how they stank?

I understand that transcribing census records is not an easy job, but I do think transcribers could make the effort to at least link up details within the same record.

I just found that the 1921 census is now available on Ancestry so had a quick look at some of my grandparents' generation.

There's one guy correctly transcribed as a cotton yarn salesman, living in Manchester. But his employer is transcribed as a "Farm Agent" (rather than "Yarn Agent") and his place of work is given as Gloucester instead of Manchester. Why on earth, in 1921, would someone be living in Manchester, the centre of the cotton industry, and working as a cotton salesman in Gloucester?

There are also understandable misunderstandings. :heehee:

One of my great grandmothers is listed in the 1841 census as a cats' meat seller. It was nothing to do with killing and eating cats. She sold horse meat for pet cats (and working cats) and dogs. There were supposed to be around 300,000 horses in London in those days. When they were no longer fit to work they got sold off for food or sent to the knackers yard.

It was not that long ago…well ok a while now, that many pets were fed on horse meat.
I can remember going to the pet shop with my mum to get food for our dog and cat. I am not sure you could even get canned pet food then. Mum would buy a big chunk of raw meat and cut it into small pieces for the dog and gave the cat a big lump for him to chew up himself. The cat was eventually pts at the ripe old age of 22 and still had all his teeth! Being a horse lover my Mum never told me what the meat was until years later as knew I would have been upset.

My grandmother would always buy what were known as "lights" from the butchers to feed her dogs (she bred Pekinese!) Lights are lungs, and she would boil them on the stove for hours. The smell was terrible.
