Not my garden but found this cool looking mushroom during some coppicing volunteering I do

Nothing in the garden except some purple Callicarpa berries I can't get to because of the slippery path, but I brought this indoors from my greenhouse this afternoon. It always flowers in the dead of winter ...
This one is a cutting.

Galanthus elwesii monostictus the first snow drop have appeared.

 

Attentive readers may remember I had a bonkers lobelia plant last yr, grown from a cutting, that topped 70 cms in height and had to be tied to the tap for support. Well, scroll on through the months and while January is clearly not peak time for bedding plants, I do feel that it is showing more perkiness than is normal for a freezing morning after a freezing week. Fingers crossed I don't jinx things by being so optimistic about its future.

 

After the overnight thaw, I discovered these tiny wallflowers showing some optimism too!




First snowdrops.

 

These have been in flower for weeks - they last well.

I think this is Mighty Atom

And this is "Keith's Colossal". All the others (Wasp, Percy Picton, Primrose Warburg etc) are further behind.
Strangely this curry plant is putting out new growths
And of course Kniphofia "Christmas Cheer" is still going strong - totally unbothered by the frost we've had

 

So much promise …

Last week it was frosted and buried in snow but now the sun's come out and the Winter Honeysuckle just carries on as if it never happened. Oooh ..... and that scent!!!

 

Unfortunately the slugs find this little narcissus very tasty... I remove at least one slug from under the pot each morning. I think it's 'Julia Jane'.

 

Indoors bulbs are a bit of a hit and miss, but with Tete a Tetes "free with every order" and Hyacinths "reduced to clear", I'm very happy with the little sparks of spring in the house.

Outdoors ones are just only pushing through but look very promising

 

Gorgeous hellebore from Farmyard Nurseries. I have to try and avoid their Winter Event in February or I'll get even more...

This cyclamen hederifolium surprised me - they're usually autumnal
