We have to use rat poison in our loft. It always goes, sometimes quickly and sometimes slowly, and don't know whether it is mice or rats nowadays but many years ago we did di find a dead rat up there that was eighteen inches long - including tail. That is the only dead rodent we have found up there.

Thankfully none of the local cats have ever had a problem.

On the subject of prescription medications, I was doing some research recently re expiry dates. Apparently, most tablets (more stable than liquids), kept in cool, dark conditions and sealed individually in blister packaging, are still effective up to 23 yrs and 2 months (which seems quite specific, but there you are :dunno:) after the use by. Which makes you wonder if the manufacturers are underestimating the length of efficacy to boost profits. Surely not? ;)

Happened to our freezer once too. Though last time it was two legged rather than rodent that did for the stuff in our freezer. Workmen turned the electricity off when tidying up for doing a job for us. I mean workmen tidying up. Now moved the freezer into the house. The meat from it was cooked and refrozen, so not a total loss.

I think my house insurance covers freezer contents up to a certain amount.

Back to roundabouts - a small town we go to in Greece decided to replace a junction with a roundabout. The locals quickly decided that the bit in the middle was an ideal parking spot.

How many F's are there in the word luck?

Oh, that's right, there is no EFFIN LUCK... or at least not for me!

Fitted new vinyl flooring in the bathroom (old one was worn and then got damaged) - was all chuffed with myself as I thought it looked pretty good. Whilst doing it, I spotted a drip from the inlet on the toilet cistern, so nipped the nut up on that and mopped up with a rag before carrying on.

Then on Sunday, Mrs C said that we'd not laid the vinyl properly as there was an air bubble in it - which I promptly dismissed as lifting it was not anywhere near my priority list. The toilet was dripping, so a rag was added and it was put onto my job list, right at the top, for this coming weekend.

Yesterday, early in the day, I noticed the bubble too and thought it was a bit more than I was expecting it to be - hmmm....

By yesterday evening, it seemed a bigger bubble and there was a part of the floor that was notably colder than the rest - and it was a bouncy bubble too, so I had to investigate, urgently - so leave was taken from work and I set about it.

I had assistance, as you will see, but what was uncovered... well, suffice to say I am not happy bunny.

I will be off to Wickes shortly to collect a new inlet valve for the loo and boards/nails for the floor, then I can begin to reassemble. It never rains but it chuffing well pours.

Been sat in the lounge and watching the vehicles coming in & out, they are now coming around a blind corner at speed then they have to serve, well farmer george is out muck spreading and coming out of farm he drops a big pile of poo onto the road so that's why the vehicles are serving  even farmer george is going around said pile of poo, i wonder if it will get cleaned up before it gets dark, if not i wouldn't like to hit it  as it will damage the front of a modden car being all plastic, normal i would go and clean it up but some time people will have to learn something the hard way, yes even poo falling off a muck spread is insure load

@Fat Controller I went through the same type of leak in the fall. Only it dumped enough water to damage my living room ceiling. It is so frustrating!

I've escaped damage downstairs thankfully, but only because we caught it quite quickly. The hardboard has soaked it up like a sponge, so I will rip that up and replace it in the next day or so and then get normality restored if I can.

Thank you. I think I have been able to save it by being a bit careful with the knife when lifting it, so it should go back down. It is the good stuff (about 4mm thick) so it has a bit of resilience about it. Fingers crossed...

That is a dangerous move - sure, they may have their injunction, but farmers are ever closer to telling supermarkets to go away in short, sharp, jerky motions.... aye, and there is a lot of the public that would quite happily buy from farmers via a direct network and bypass the supermarkets entirely. I count myself in that number.

I read about that the other day, about the application.
But previous to that it was stated that Morrisons was the only supermarket the farmers were not going to hassle.:dunno:

They've probably needlessly shot themselves in the foot with their injunction - the worry is, the Tescos of this world will likely rapidly follow their example, and then things are going to get really spicy. One of the easiest methods for farmers at that stage is not to blockade or protest outside supermarkets or even outside town halls and parliament... all the need to do is blockade their own property and huddle up for a while. They aren't the ones who will be short of food to eat.
