Despite yesterday's rain it turned out the sunniest day this month beating Monday 13th by over 10% - but that's not saying much as it is currently the least sunny January in the last ten years.

I'm glad you're keeping records, @shiney. I ought to  but rely on memory (bad idea ) and overall impressions. The main one is that, if the statistics on average temperature rises are accurate (and not biased to support agendas), there is also a tendancy towards more cloud cover. There's never any mention of that, though....

@noisette47 It's not a problem keeping records, I don't do it but the software that came with the solar panels does. :heehee:

Although I'm not a Luddite I do dislike a lot of modern technology but some things can be useful. Not sure that knowing how much sunlight we get each day is really useful. :noidea:

I try not to buy 'Smart' things but I do have a computer which I mostly use for communicating and storing info. Don't have a mobile or any 'Smart' equipment apart from the TV (couldn't buy any that weren't 'smart' but have turned off all but one of the smart applications.

It's good when the smart things work but when they don't, wander why we have them.

@shiney , is the records actually based on electricity generation, or sunshine hours.
Only I assume you need less sunshine hours in eg. March to generate the same amount of electricity as in January, if that makes sence.
Had some rain in the early hours but just a dampening really.
                  Clear sky now and 5c.

@pete it's on generation but I only compare it to the same months of the year. I'm not sure about any differences in how much sunshine in different months makes a difference but I would guess the strength of the sunshine would make a difference.

We also lose generation during winter months because the sun is lower in the sky and gets obscured to a certain extent by the taller trees. Although there is further loss of generation during October and November when the sun is low but the leaves are still on the deciduous trees. We have one very tall conifer (not Leylandii) that is a nuisance in that way but we like it.

There's a frost this morning but I think it will clear later on when the sun comes up.
But inside my unheated greenhouse the temperature is 10 C  and not even the windows or roof are frosted ...

The only thing that's different for me this winter is that my feet haven't been so cold like the last last one.

Overcast with a breeze and light rain, 14c going to mid/high teens and sunny. We had 3mm overnight bringing us to 101mm for January, excellent but we are still in a severe drought situation.

A sunny day ahead, maybe 10c eventually. No rain expected and just a slight breeze as a bonus. Could be a lovely day!
Edited to add that we're promised 7c not 10c!
