I’d certainly write to the Forestry people, @Anna42 , detailing the additional costs in replacement feed that their delays are costing you, and stating that you will require reimbursement if this isn’t rectified within a couple of weeks. Worth a try.
Also worth asking them for written confirmation that if you have to get the repairs done by your own contractors ( no need to mention daughter) because of their delays, that they will be covering the entire costs. Maybe they will divert some of their efforts from elsewhere and prioritise yours if they think it could cost them money. It’s not fair that you should be financially inconvenienced by their delays. Can you see any down sides to this?

      Morning all.

Your land sounds beautiful and those bluebells must be a highlight indeed @Anna42, but your job ahead sounds hard going!

I’m off today, but a busy work week thereafter. It would be prudent for me to do some ironing, batch cooking and tidying today to make the week easier. Will I though?…

I hope Monday is kind to you all.

        Good morning all!

Those bluebells are wonderful, @Anna42 . I do hope you can make some progress with the fence mending - hopefully with help from the Forestry folk very soon. It must be an anxious time for you.

Good luck with the forward planning, @AuntyRach . Sometimes, having a good rest before your working week might be more important...

Our forward planning (for the holiday) is getting increasingly complicated, the more possibilities we find for interesting (and affordable) places to stay. The cottage on the farm in the middle of nowhere is sounding more and more promising, as we discover more about it. They keep bees and sell their own wildflower honey, have a small informal museum of old household & farming items used by their family over the generations (birch bark slippers, anyone?), and there's a very large model railway (this makes OH particularly excited!) in their barn. I'm getting a bit jittery about booking flights, though, because our internet is so "iffy" at the moment. There's nothing worse than getting part way through a booking, and finding everything has frozen on your computer!

I'm feeling a lot more myself this morning. Hope @Obelix-Vendée managed to sleep, and isn't suffering too much with that cold. And best wishes to the rest of you for a happy Monday!

What a beautiful sight those bluebells are @Anna42. I do agree about the forestry folk. Thing is, if they think you can do it without them putting their hands in their pockets, they will let you.
I had an awful night - OH was shouting away! I went to the back bedroom, but by then, was wide awake.
My normal Tesco delivery is delayed, due to breakdown. Hope I'm in when they finally get here. No sign of when that might be.
I was talking to my SiL yesterday about our stay in Llanberis. No wonder she always looks so glamourous. For 2 nights away, she takes a full suitcase of coordinating clothes. She's the only woman I know who wears full makeup at the hotel breakfast, plus a pearl necklace. Everyone else is in jeans and hiking boots!
          Have a good Monday everyone!

Morning all, wet, cold and dreary here so probably no gardening today.

Those bluebells are stunning @Anna42 but what a nightmare about the fences. I agree with the others that you should try to get reimbursement for costs from the forestry folk.

Hit a problem today, our local pharmacy has suddenly closed until further notice and I had hoped to pick up my meds today. I phoned our surgery who have given me a barcode ? so I now have to drive (it's too far to walk and would involve 2 buses) to the nearest alternative pharmacy. Such a nuisance if our pharmacy is closing for good.

I'd better go and get ready, hope you all have a good day.

              Good afternoon to you all!!

Grey and dismal here today. No rain. We had a good dose of that Saturday morning!! I did some weeding this morning as the weeds were easy to pull out after the rain. "Strike While the Iron is Hot" !! But I have so many other pressing things to do - i.e. unpacking and finding homes for stuff. My lovely friend came from Montpellier and has put up shelves, done some electricity (I learnt some new French vocabulary that is not necessarily in the dictionary!!!)

I have read back over the posts and sympathise with you all - I hope though, that everyone spends a reasonable Monday and gets stuff done!!

PS. We did make time to watch the match so - well done to the English although both teams were strong and it was a good match.

                  Good afternoon,

We have yet another grey, damp, cold, dismal day here. Got out earlier to the coffee morning group then came back and got warmed up by tackling the ironing. This damp seems to permeate everywhere despite the heating.

Beautiful bluebells @Anna42, but that certainly seems a trial trying to get the repair work done. I do hope you can get some reimbursement for the additional costs to you and, of course, the inconvenience.

That’s certainly an inconvenience regarding the pharmacy @lizzie27 and I hope it’s only a temporary closure, otherwise would the pharmacy further away offer a delivery service - some do?

Lunch time now, time for some warming soup.

"Not for profit" basis"??? we make no money on the place just make enough to cover the routine bills of running the place. The cleaner cost is covered by the guests. In your Holiday cottage do the guests then clean bathrooms/showers, wash floors, dust, wash windows before they leave in the holiday cottage in Scotland. Has to be hard to travel with towels and bedlinens, especially flying, too much stuff. I heard sometime you can run across a "dirty" dish put away by a prior guest.

I usually read carefully when I select places to stay. Not planning to ever pack sheets and towels. I pack very light. Paying extra is ok with me.

Grrr, not what I need. No Tesco delivery today, so it means I must go shopping on the way back from taking senior dog to the in laws. Will a £10 voucher make up for it? Probably not!
Small mercy, the grandkids aren't coming tonight, so I'm cheating and will get a ready meal or something easy for us.

After I took OH to the station I went to Tesco then to Bressingham garden centre and bought 6 packs of 8 violas and pansies. I love violas and I hope they will be looking pretty when my daughters come in April. Also bought Ladybird poppy seeds for France, they looked so pretty at Great Dixter.

Truly dismal here today. Low temperatures, and feels even colder. Had to cancel a non urgent doctors appointment this afternoon, as I am still sniffling. Not doing too much today. No gardening, but at least I have the big pile of prunings to admire.

Afternoon all. Been cold and dismal all day so gardening is still on the back borner. @lizzie27 that isnot good news about your pharmacy. I have heard on the news about the numbers that are closing down so I hope your's is not a permanent closure. Bad news too about your Tesco delivery @Penny_Forthem. Hope your OH doesn't have to wait as long as last time @Busy-Lizzie. It sounds as though you got a fine bootful of plants there. I haven't heard anything about @Goldenlily26 Ergates so I do hope all is OK where she is.
Signing out for today. Getting the brain in gear for tonight. Enjoy your evenings all of you.

I suspect our running costs are a lot lower than yours, @redstar , so we charge very little for our cottage - about the same as a camp site. Yes, we have visitors who do more than clean up after themselves, in recognition of a very cheap holiday in a beautiful place. They are all expected to clean the cooker, the bathroom and all the floors, plus leaving the pans & crockery etc clean, and almost all of them do so. The latest visitor cleaned the windows and the one before her cleared the gutters... we have a list of "extra" jobs for anyone with time and inclination to do them. No cleaner. I sort out anything needing doing when I visit, a couple of times per year. It seems to work...
