    Evening folks.

Had both a productive and relaxing day. I’ve even made cake for my teaching faculty colleagues tomorrow!

Spicy chicken wraps with homemade slaw tonight.

Enjoy the evening and keep cosy all.

WOW. since your prices are very low how do you weed out the rift raft. over here there is a sweet spot of price to get "decent" people, so no one does damage, yes, we have the Airbnb reviews of them to look at also. We have had a couple "sneak" by, and found broken "overhead fan, and couple other things, having to use the security deposit. Anyway, sorry, when on vacation I do little as possible. but guess my agenda is different.

We are very careful where we advertise, @redstar , and get a lot of repeat bookings. No need to apologise for having a different agenda!

We first went on holiday in 1987 to the cottage which eventually became ours; we didn't think we could afford a holiday, but its owners liked to share with people who didn't have much money, so we stayed there with our children, aged 7 and 9, and absolutely loved it. There was no bathroom, an outside toilet and a cold tap in the kitchen. We went the next year as well, but then the owners decided to sell. "We'd love to sell it to people like you", they said... we'd mended the toilet roof and cut the hedge, because we could see it needed doing. But we had no money... or so we thought. Then my great-uncle died and left me exactly the amount of money they wanted for the cottage. Should we buy it, or mend the drains at home? It didn't take us long to decide... so now we let people rent the cottage for as much as they can afford. We have a suggested price, but some people pay less and a few pay more. We don't make a profit but have never been in the red.

And yes, things do get broken sometimes. Most people let us know...

Good morning everybody. @Liriodendron, your cottage sounds absolutely delightful.

We were beaten last night in the quiz but we did win the beer round! One of the team we were playing found out I originated from the North East when I answered a question on the Farne Islands and his accent gave him away so at the end of the quiz we had a long chat about the places we both shared knowledge of. A very pleasant evening despite the loss.

            Morning folks.

Teaching today. Mustn’t forget the cake and the batch of fake urine samples I created with food colouring. My red colour came out orange though, so ketchup was employed for that one! Black coffee was another colour (sorry to spoil your morning cuppa!).

Have a good Tuesday all and keep your kidneys happy with hydration!

Fascinated by your post @AuntyRach! How many fake samples have you got? I'd be tempted at the end to drink the last of the one coloured with black coffee - just to see the reaction of the group. But then I'm strange like that!

                Good morning all!!

Cloudy with some rain forecast but the sun has come out although there are big dark clouds. I think I will go to the nursery today and buy some salad onions to plant for summer. Did a couple of hours weeding yesterday and cleared up some piles of weeds into the trailer which is now full and ready to dump. Slept 8 hours last night!!!

                Have a pleasant day everyone.

Sounds like you are settling into your new home and garden @Tui34

Another dark, dreary day weather wise here. Plus a cold north-easterly as a bonus extra so nothing happening in the garden again…

Summing up enthusiasm for a walk round Sutton Park. I know we will enjoy it once we get going, it’s fining the starter motor that’s proving difficult. No other specific plans for today but I do need to do some bank and home admin.

We spent an interesting week in a lovely old Victorian house on Lismore some years ago @Liriodendron . We enjoyed the Island and thought the house was lovely, but after a string of strange happenings and dreams we left a day or two early. I’ve always wondered if there was any known history about the house, it certainly felt as if there was a tragic backstory.

Hope those with lurgies are beginning to feel better and quickly move on from :sick0026: to :hapfeet:

Sounds interesting @AuntyRach. I shall now have to go and google

                    Good morning,

It’s all becoming monotonous weather wise here - yet another grey, damp, cold day with a light breeze also in the mix. I’m trying to convince myself to wrap up and go to the post box to post a card. I really should, as the collection isn’t until tomorrow morning now, as I’ve missed today’s and the card is needed for Friday (not a Valentine card, a birthday card).

OH has been busy making a batch of scones. He’s rather taken to baking since retirement so that it’s been a long time since I made scones. I do make the Christmas cake though.

                      Good morning all.

OH said that going to Wandsworth by train, although a bit complicated and involved quite a bit of walking, was less hassle that driving there. He was also seen more quickly with less waiting in the TLS office than last year. He had time to go to a restaurant for a meal and he found a wonderful Italian supermarket so he came back with some goodies, cheese, pasta in unusual shapes and chocolates. He was very tired last night.

                      Another cold grey day.

Hello everyone. Feeling better today but head still feeling stuffed and throat still sore. It'll pass soon enough. Thanks to all for your kind encouragements.

Boring weather here too @Blue arbour. I really don't understand the modern trend to grey walls in houses when skies are so often grey and dull.

We have just been visited by 7 beef steers trampling all over my big island bed at the front! Now the dogs are no longer with us we tend to leave the gates open in the daytime, but not at night as we don't want wild boar or deer wrecking the place. This lot are very frisky so have clearly just been let out of the winter barn, escaped from a field and came to visit.

Scarpered when OH went out there with a broom to guide them and then they went next door to visit the not delightful neighbour. Their dog Aiko chased them off and they went galloping up the lane while I phoned our retired farmer neighbour who now lives in the next village to ask him to call his tenants to round them up. All sorted now but I shall wait till I feel better balanced to go and inspect the hoof prints and other damage.

Your cottage and its management sound lovely @Liriodendron.

We like interesting pasta shapes too @Busy-Lizzie and brought loads back from Genoa. We like fusilli lunghi and Genoese trofie and mafaldine which I don't often find here.

Sounds like you're havin fun settling in and getting on @Tui34. Do you have new walks and bike rides for you and Fizz?

Great to have a good chat about shared places @Ladybird4 and your "experiments" sound like fun @AuntyRach. I hope your colleagues appreciate them.

Have a good day everyone with the right kinds of excitement and/or satisfaction. Hugs to those like @Goldenlily26, feeling bereft and those like @Badly_Maintained recovering form surgery or illness.

For my Airbnb. I have furnished it with 2nd handed items. If you take time to look can find some good stuff people don't want anymore. Like the dining room set, all perfect, name brand, 6 chairs, good hard wood table, got for $75.00. Get dishes and glasses from Estate sales, for pennies, I keep to a theme, all white plates, no design, have 28 stacked plates. Lamps, couple dollars. Auction houses for pictures for the walls. We did have to get new bedroom stuff of course. Find good prices for towels, but they last long. There is so much stuff out there don't know why folks buy brand new. We leave in a few days, have to stain the deck walk that leads to the dock. Meet again with the new property manager and hopefully enjoy a meal at a favorite restaurant there. We do have awesome neighbors that watch the house for us.

Hello all, overslept again! Didn't wake up till 9.30 so then had a mad scramble to have breakfast, shower, dress and get out the door for my usual monthly massage. Slight delay because of roadworks but managed to find a parking spot down by the shops. Lovely to be pampered on a heated massage table, wrapped in warm blankets and feel more supple now.
Love the sound of your cottage and you are so very kind not to charge the earth to guests, unusual these days.
Sounds if you are settling in nicely @Tui34.
Glad your OH had a better experience this year @Busy-Lizzie.
Second hand stuff makes perfect sense for a BnB @redstar and gives a homely feel I think.
It's good to think of things being reused and not just thrown away.
Sounds as if you had a good time @Ladybird4 last night, nice to meet someone from your home area too.

Haha - I will do that another time!

Day was good, cake was well received and the ‘samples’ worked well. There was no heating on in the building today so we all had our coats on!
I could enjoy a massage with heated towels now @lizzie27!

Oh dear @Obelix-Vendée, I hope there isn't too much damage to your island bed but I don't suppose you will know the full extent until the spring when the plants start growing up. A herd of the next door farmer's cows got into our garden once when we lived in Kent years ago and they wrecked the lawn. The farmer paid to have it repaired.

I've done very little again today. We watched 2 episodes of "As Time Goes By". I didn't have UK TV when it was on years ago. I need to go for a walk but my eyes water a lot in the cold.
