Ok, to be correct, the last person to (attempt to) close the garage door before I went to check it this morning, was my OH.
Thank you for pointing this discrepancy out to me.

Nope, it isn't. It's a very sturdy metal one.
A couple of scratches to the front of the car are not worth claiming for under the insurance. The car is ten years old, and has been "personalised" by my wife on several occasions!!

The problem is they have a massive majority, so they can talk all day about things and achieve sod all.
When things come to voting they get told how to vote regardless of what their constituents think.
I lost all faith in the system, it's hardly a democracy.

The petitions are utterly pointless I'm afraid. The Government has a massive majority so the likelihood of a petition of that kind getting a vote in favour is below zero.

I agree with you @KT53, but maybe it's a good idea to give them a nudge, prick their conscience. Might have an effect somewhere down the line, sometime in the future.

Not getting the proposed change doesn’t necessarily make a petition a waste of time. And it’s the only way, between elections, to raise specific issues.

Personally, I’d favour the threshold being at £15,000. Whatever the level, it needs to move up from its current point if only to relieve the extra burden on HMRC, collecting small amounts from millions of pensioners.

Well, they could do what they said they would in the run up to the election - ask those with the broadest shoulders to pay a little more.

They also could make the tax system simple, transparent, and without loopholes. Billions are lost annually because of tax avoidance by companies pretending their profit is not generated here and wealthy individuals offshoring.

As long as it doesn't do any harm to vote I think it is better than doing nothing. Doing nothing is not a good principle.

                          As Martin Niemoller said:-

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

This speech of his was used by him in various forms depending on his audience but was referring to minority groups and oppression (and even some quotes had listed Catholics and Protestants).

Even that is better than nothing. :blue thumb:

I’m shocked at the failure of the dentist / hygienist to double check your medical history before each course of treatment. It’s imperative for your safety, and leaves them liable for prosecution if anything untoward happens to you. Always needs to be checked and recorded, which is what we are all taught to do. It’s not always obvious to patients what might cause an issue, and could lead to very serious outcomes. Our dentists have always double checked, and now get a signature.

What it fails to point out is if he had spoken out when they came for the socialists he would not have been around when they came for all the others, let alone himself.;)
