I heard in the past that after the Olympics it was mooted that they could use the Olympic village to house mp's but they weren't in favour.
I also think it's one thing to claim an allowance for a home in London but it seems many claim for their constituency home as well, even though they don't live there full time. I believe Rachel from accounts has done this even though her husband is on a massive wage.

With the latest scandal where 11 Labour councillors, up till now, have been suspended I wonder how many will lose their seats in the local elections - where they are still allowing those to go forward. The others have been delayed for a year.

Tech! Pfft! Don’t ya just hate it sometimes? :th scifD36:

I have a truly ancient MacBook. It no longer connects to the internet. I wish to dispose of it, but want to wipe my presence first. Well, easier said than done. I can’t decommission itunes on it as, even if it connected to the internet, it is too old to sign into itunes. And I’ve read countless online articles about how to restore to factory settings, but I don’t have the options these say are there. “Click erase” isn’t very helpful if you haven’t got “erase” in the first place. Grrrrr! That’s two hrs of today I’ll never get back! :gaah:

Submerge it in a bucket of hot water with bleach added. We’ve resorted to that before now:phew: You could even smash it up with a hammer as well.

Tempting! The plan was for me to dump it on my sister next time she visits, and she would convey it to her local Apple store for recycling, thereby doing my bit for the planet. But, that may not pan out if I can’t do an erase.

            This annoyed me

Norwich knitted D-Day display cancelled over safety fears - BBC News

basically some lovely people from around the world have knitted a remembrance piece for all those brave people who stormed the beaches during d-day. Unfortunately the local "insert your own descriptive word here as mine isn't family friendly" have stopped it because of health and safety. Having been in that part of the library many times, I know that it isn't the biggest but to cancel the display is just "another descriptive word that isn't family friendly".
Can you imagine if these people had to actually had to be on those boats heading to hell on earth. I'm sure the risk assessment would have taken some time to fill in.

I was under the impression, rightly or wrongly, that even if you delete stuff from a hard drive the "right", or wrong, people can still recover it.
I have an old PC that I might want to dump but if I do I think I will remove the hard drive and give it the hammer treatment then bury it up the garden.

Gee now I do have something to moan about. I don't have anything important enough on my hard drive for anyone to desire it, let alone spend time trying to retrieve my data!

Maybe I should paint a giant backward L on my forehead!

Certainly for windows there are plenty of free programmes for essentialy totally wiping files and drives, for a whole hard drive probably have to use either a bootable CD or USB.
Maybe something here for Macbook Google Search

We took a hammer, chisel, mallet, you name it my OH used it to smash up an old tower drive once which was no longer required. Even if the info contained on it was still “ floating about in the ether “ it was a very satisfying and enjoyable activity

Remove the hard drive? :hate-shocked: Lordy, is that even a physical thing? A bootable CD or UBS? Now you’ve really lost me.

Am in way over my head technically just trying to power it into life. When I first got it, I had to phone a friend to ask how to open the lid. In my ignorance, I did not realise the apple logo needed to be upside down and had been trying to get in at the wrong side! :loll: The internet age sure has been a learning curve. :ideaIPB:

The “you” needs removing from that sentence, ability-wise. The battery doesn’t work at all, so it has to be tethered to a wall socket to function. It really is a dinosaur in terms of age. I can’t get over how heavy it is. To think 20 yrs ago, it was at the cutting edge of tech!

I should add, like @CanadianLori, there is nothing suss on it. I just wanted to remove my details.

Do ipads have hard drives? When my first wouldn’t charge anymore and wasn’t being supported by updates, I just took myself off it as per the instructions on a “What to do before selling your ipad” page and dropped it at an Apple store.
