@Adam I have you tried taking cuttings to see if the variegation is passed on?

apparently its stable recessive gene(s) so it should carry from cuttings and self pollinated seeds

it seems to be setting fruit indoors. perhaps its parthenocarpic but i think anuums pollinate better. my chinense dont set fruit indoors even with tapping.

I have always grown my chilli plants in pots in the greenhouse. Has anyone planted them outside in the vegetable plot with any success? I live in Hampshire.

I did try with some surplus plants in Essex a couple of decades ago, got some green peppers, but nothing decent.

I found, even in pots, the chilies grown in the greenhouse far outpaced the growth of those outside. I believe that the fact that the only breeze they felt was my small fans gently circulating the air and never got pelted on with heavy rain is what gave them the advantage. I don't know what they would be like planted into the ground outside as I have never tried it. I had a picture showing this difference. I'll see if I can find it. Might take a while...

This has probably been answered before re growing chillies - I used JI Seed compost for germinating. Then when two true leaves form they are moved into JI No2 in slightly bigger individual pots. My question is: When do you know when to move them into the next larger pot using JI No3.

When you find roots showing at the bottom of the pot? That's how I time potting on of chillies, tomatoes and other veggies and ornamentals.

                    That is an excellent indicator.

Not sure I'll be sowing any as I have to go away in April for a fortnight and no-one left to care for any seedlings.

No gardening friends or neighbours? Automatic watering with a drip feed orwater wick system?

None I'd want in my house :heehee:

I think an auto system might be too much as they need very little water.

It's no real drama, I can start late or plant and hope for the best

@Loofah wait until you get back and then raid garden centre, B&Q or similar and pick some up.
