When I read The Handmaid’s Tale almost 40 years ago I thought hahahahahahaha. Now, when I think about it, I think hmmmmmmmmm.

Yes, except Atwood made a point of basing The Handmaid’s Tale on real life, contemporary and historical, examples of the things she was describing. Abortion made illegal etc.

 

True! Dystopias have long existed, in one form or another.
